This!!
If you don't support your local wool shop, you won't have a local wool shop. We hear this soooo often in Ewe Felty Thing and it's really sad to hear that so many have fallen.

We're all struggling.

I've been open with those on our mailing list that things are pretty tough for us right now, and I'll explain a bit more here later, so please, if you need some yarn, if you need some needles or hooks, consider your local yarn shop first.

Yes we might not be as cheap as the online stores, but we are here to support you in a way that they just aren't.

Dropped a stitch? Don't understand your pattern? Something has gone wrong and you can't see what? Come in! But please try and buy a little something from us while you're here.

That saying 'every little helps' really is true. A pack of stitch markers, a yarnie's friend, maybe one of our new pin badges once they arrive..

It helps us to stay open. It helps us to pay the rent. To pay wages.

To be here, so that you too aren't visiting somewhere next year and saying 'oh we used to have a great woolshop in Conwy once...'

We used to have a great wool shop...

This time of year we have a lot of out of town visitors to our wool shop. And something I hear all the time is " we used to have a great wool shop".

They closed down..

People went online during the great plague of 2020 and never went back.

For every project you buy your yarn online with, it's another project that hasn't supported your local wool shop.

For every brand you choose that only sells online and that wool shop can't get in for you is another project that eats into the income of your local wool shop.

For every workshop you attend that is using online branded yarn... ask why??????

If you've got a local wool shop.. USE IT OR LOSE IT!

There are so many choices, so many options, so much help and support in your local wool shop... you only have to ask if they can get yarn in for you and they will!!

They will get yarn in for your projects, they will help you if you get stuck on your pattern, they will organise knitting and crochet clubs, they will have those emergency supplies you need even faster than amazon can drop them into your lap. They do the things online cannot. They provide employment in your community, they use the other local shops in your town, shopping local keeps the whole cycle of community and high streets alive and not dead and buried under a pile of online orders.

PLEASE THINK ABOUT USING YOUR LOCAL WOOL SHOP BEFORE BUYING ONLINE.

At the moment it's pretty crucial..... Just saying this before you are the ones also saying.... we used to have a great wool shop too. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

And incase its about price... at the welsh wool shop and unwind we price match online for brands we can stock.. its hard but we have to, to keep you with us... if you choose brands that are exclusively online... well we will be gone before you can say.. wool warehouse.

📝 Observation Report: Fibre Department
*Date* Today
Location: Pom‑pom habitat / Kits area
Observer: Shop staff (slightly concerned, mostly delighted)

*Subject(s)*
Tribbles / faux fur pom‑poms
Pom‑pom making kits
Pom‑rantulars

*Observed Behaviour*
The tribbles/faux fur pom‑poms have now been observed congregating with pom‑pom making kits and pom‑rantulars. This appears to be a deliberate association rather than a coincidence.

*Subjects were seen*
Hanging out in close proximity
Displaying colour‑matching behaviour
Showing no fear of yarn‑based predators
Possibly recruiting new members

*Possible Explanations*
Safety in numbers
A shared interest in fluff
Early stages of a pom‑based ecosystem
A coup

*Risk Assessment*
High risk of spontaneous crafting
Increased likelihood of customers saying “I only came in for one thing”
Potential for rapid pom‑pom multiplication

*Recommended Action*
Monitor closely
Do not separate unless absolutely necessary
Encourage adoption into good homes
Photograph for evidence (and socials)

*Conclusion*
Situation remains contained but adorable. Further updates to follow should the pom‑rantulars begin web‑building.
📌 Report filed for yarn‑based records.

Faux fur Poms, Pom- Pom Making kits and Pom- rantular kits are all available to purchase from https://ewefeltything.co.uk/collections/kits-1

Are you like Woolbert and feel a little nervous about steeking?

I know I am! This is me, Nikki, putting my hand up and saying I'm going to be attending Kath's course because although I understand the principles behind steeking, I've never tried it, and to be honest, I'd rather like someone to hold my hand whilst I do!

So if you would like to go from nervous to natural why not book to join me? We only have a few places left, and there WILL be cake!
