What to Sow in May 🌱

Outdoors (traight into the soil):

🥕 Root Veg: Carrots, beetroot, and parsnips.
🥗 Salads: Lettuce, rocket, and spring onions (sow every 2 weeks!).
🫛 Legumes: Runner beans, French beans, and peas.
🌻 Flowers: Sunflowers, nasturtiums, and wildflowers.

Indoors or Under Glass:
🎃 Squash Family: Courgettes, pumpkins, and cucumbers.
🌽 Sweetcorn: Best started in pots to protect those roots.
🌿 Basil: It loves the heat- keep it in the greenhouse!

Give your seeds the best start by covering them with a light layer of our high quality Compost.

12 Bags, 1 Happy Garden! 🚚🌿

We recently dropped off 12 bags of our premium, 100% peat-free compost to a regular customer who is busy getting their borders summer-ready.

Whether you’re top-dressing established beds or creating brand-new vegetable patches, our locally-sourced mix provides the perfect nutrient boost without the environmental cost.

🌸 May Gardening Jobs 🌿

❄️ Frost Watch: Keep an eye out for late frosts. Protect tender plants, new growth, and spring blossoms with fleece or cloches to prevent damage.

🥔 Potato Care: Earth up your potatoes as they grow to protect shoots and stop spuds from turning green. Plant any remaining seed potatoes now!

🌸 Summer Bedding: Wait until the end of the month to plant out summer bedding in containers and borders.

💧 Watering & Weeding: Water early or late to maximise hydration and recycle water where possible. Keep on top of weeds by hoeing vegetable patches on dry days.

🏡 Greenhouse Venting: Open vents and doors on warm days to keep your greenhouse cool and well-ventilated.

🐝 Wildlife Lawns: Mow less often or leave areas uncut to let flowers bloom for pollinators. Perfect for supporting local wildlife!
