I love this rich, brown clay. I usually leave the shape simple and glaze it with bright colours that react well with the terracotta.

I got some new tools recently which had me playing with texture, fluting the base and adding quite a traditional thumb rest on the handle. I think I'll leave the fluting unglazed to show off the beautiful clay on the bottom.

I've had a year of minimal making, with a research thesis and two professional exams. Starting 2026 off with an intention to spend more time behind the wheel and push myself out of my comfort zone

I'm not entirely convinced this one will fit in the kiln, but it's been great to practice joining different components together (thrown in 4 parts!) And I'm hoping it'll make a nice lamp base 🤞

Part 2 of Hebden Bridge open studios mini Instagram challenge: Why do you create?

Working as an NHS doctor, I create in my downtime to be more mindful in a productive way and recover from busy days. I spent many years as a serial hobbyist, trying sewing, knitting, crochet, painting among many others, and never really settled on one thing until I found ceramics.

In 2021, I did a taster weekend on the wheel at Old Stables Studio in Hebden and fell in love. A few weeks later, I invested in my first wheel and haven't looked back since.

I now spend every spare minute in the garden shed, throwing, trimming or glazing, in my own little world with an audio book and a little heater by my side as I see what I can create.

Find me at The Making Mill tomorrow and Sunday from 10.30

Hebden makes Christmas mini Instagram challenge day 1: What do you make?

I make ceramics from my garden shed, thrown on the wheel and finished in colourful glazes. I love practical pieces like these candles, ring holders and vases and will have plenty of each at the event this weekend, along with mugs, bowls and some extra special Christmas treats!

I've spent a lovely Christmassy morning filling these handmade candle holders with lovely mulled wine scented wax for my table at this weekend!

These would make the perfect Christmas present and can be reused as cups or little plant pots afterwards!

I've not done a lot of posting recently as I'm busy glazing pieces like this ready for an exciting event next month...

I made this vase to hold a bridesmaids bouquet for our wedding last year and it's still one of my favourite glaze combos, photo credit
