I’m a textile artist and designer maker of woven, felted and stitched textile images; nuno felted accessories and jewellery: hand made, using painted and hand dyed silks, upcycled sari silk and merino wool.
I live in Teignbridge, South Devon and am inspired and influenced by the changing aspects of its rural landscape, sea and sky.
I coordinate and chair the Creative South West partnership and as an Arts Award Adviser, through the Creative South West Arts Award Centre, I am able to facilitate young people in gaining portfolio based qualifications in the arts at bronze (level 1) silver (level 2) and gold (level 3).

Sherril works with multimedia, nunofelting, collaging, stitch and handmade books. Her work is quirky and full of colour. I am inspired by nature which is rich in its colours and variety. The seasons of the year produce different responses and we are all people of one season or another. I am not a winter person, I am fuchsia and turquoise and emerald.
I am just starting on my textile journey. I like to explore methods which have come from cultures in distant countries, and am working on wet felting using ikat techniques.
Creation gives me ideas and one project tends to lead onto another one. I find as I get older there is an urgency to delve deeper into what I already know, but have forgotten.
The colours of the sea also play a big part in my inspiration, which theme you can see running through my work. The blues, cerulean, deep greens and winter greys are all suffused with light and depth, and I imagine what is beneath the waves and try to use those images positively with as many techniques as I can to make something which I hope is bold and appealing.

These are custom made books incorporating images and fabrics relevant to the recipient or person being remembered. I have made them to commemorate an event such as a landmark birthday, to preserve the memory of a friend or relative who has died, or as a reminder of friends and family for someone in a care home. To start the process I need photos, fabric and images relevant to the individual, which can include copies of certificates, examples of handwriting, poems etc. It is helpful to know about likes, interests and hobbies. These items are then printed onto fabric and stitched into a book. The images are embellished with hand stitching, and the cover made from relevant fabric, although if nothing is available I have a comprehensive stash. The books fold up and fit comfortably into a small space like a handbag.
