Sherril works with multimedia, nunofelting, collaging, stitch and handmade books. Her work is quirky and full of colour. I am inspired by nature which is rich in its colours and variety. The seasons of the year produce different responses and we are all people of one season or another. I am not a winter person, I am fuchsia and turquoise and emerald.
I am just starting on my textile journey. I like to explore methods which have come from cultures in distant countries, and am working on wet felting using ikat techniques.
Creation gives me ideas and one project tends to lead onto another one. I find as I get older there is an urgency to delve deeper into what I already know, but have forgotten.
The colours of the sea also play a big part in my inspiration, which theme you can see running through my work. The blues, cerulean, deep greens and winter greys are all suffused with light and depth, and I imagine what is beneath the waves and try to use those images positively with as many techniques as I can to make something which I hope is bold and appealing.
