SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE:

We’re heading off social media for good and this will be our last post. We won’t delete our accounts, instead we’re leaving our Facebook and Instagram accounts dormant. To stay in touch in future, please head over to our website that we regularly update for customers with important information, especially any changes to opening hours due to holidays etc. As we feature on Google Maps, we will also keep our Google listing up to date.

For some time we’ve been thinking about the influence of social media big tech and AI on creative industries. Combined with some of the more harmful and deceitful content that is pushed and actively promoted by these platforms. As they say, if access is free then YOU are the product!

Being part of that just doesn’t sit comfortably with us anymore. So we’re removing ourselves and our business from these platforms.

We will continue to be hugely creative and active as a business “in real life”! We’re definitely not going anywhere. We’re also aware of the irony of announcing it on here!!!

Thanks for your support on social media over the years. We appreciate it hugely and hope you’ll understand our decision.

All the best from Alec and Jo

We’re now away from the workshop for a few weeks on our Summer Break. Time to relax with family and friends and recharge our batteries after a busy first half of the year.

The workshop reopens at 10am on Tuesday 8th July. You can book an appointment for our return via our website. Any emails or answerphone messages will be answered promptly on our return.

There are 100 embroidered birds on this beautiful textile piece. We counted!!! Rescued from a previous outdated framing technique, it was given plenty of TLC this time around. Full Conservation methods and materials. Fully reversible with gentle repairs where needed.

A treasured piece given a new lease of life for a very special and discerning customer. A true centrepiece for their recently remodelled home.

With our wide range of bare wood mouldings and Alec’s skill and expertise with creating amazing finishes, we get to be creative. Whether in a classic style or something more contemporary.

Max Ehrmann’s “Desiderata” is a true classic. Given a fitting home in this signature keyline mount. This time with a gold metallic toned keyline. Then we created a custom hand finished gold and black toned Dutch ripple frame onto the bare wood moulding. Anti reflective glazing finished it off.

And as it was a project for the workshop we now get to enjoy it on our wall!

We’re sneaking an extra day onto our normal Sunday/Monday “weekend” - so the workshop will be closed on Tuesday 3rd June. Back open as normal from Wednesday. We’ve a great excuse though as Tuesday is our 30th Wedding Anniversary! 🥰🍾🥰

As Covid wrecked our Silver Wedding Anniversary plans in 2020, we’re taking time out to celebrate properly this year instead. 😎🥰 Including a trip back to the church where we got married in 1995!

Holiday mementos! We frame so many and each and every one comes with its own unique story. This canvas was a precious piece from a trip to Vietnam. 🇻🇳

It arrived to us as a rolled canvas. We wet mounted it to conservation board as there wasn’t enough canvas to re-stretch it. This allowed undulations in the surface caused in transit to be resolved and is a fully reversible method of support.

Framed with a bold black Komodo frame with an Accent Copper slip to give that pop of colour. The canvas had an amazing sense of depth - a real holiday treasure.

A reframing - removal of original acidic boards and dried out tapes stuck onto the fabric. The piece was correctly laced to support it and then packaged with one of our signature hand painted keyline mounts. A vibrant gloss red frame gives it a zing of colour. Finished to Level 2 Conservation standards using fully reversible methods.

Job well done 👍🏻

An indulgent non-framing post.

Did you know that this is Hedgehog 🦔 Awareness Week? Here are a few hints and tips on what to do if you spot a potentially poorly hog in your garden or out and about.
And to celebrate being aware of hedgehogs this week - here’s a photo of Obi. He’s our much loved rescue one-eyed and blind hog from Prickles in a Pickle. He lives a life of quiet luxury in our rewilded garden (really it belongs to Obi now!) which is devoted to his welfare! (Not that he’s spoilt or anything!!) 😂

From design desk layout - to finished result.

We frame treasured memories and this precious collection was no exception. Each paw print was carefully hinged into position. The text from the card was re-created in matching font. And the beloved toy was hand-stitched into place.

Framed with UV99 protection glazing for longevity. Framed in a deep box solid oak frame. The frame was hand sanded and then waxed for a soft sheen finish. Framed to Fine Art Trade Guild Level 2 Conservation standard.

Job done ✔️

Blue is the coolest colour. And it is celebrated and explored in a wonderful new exhibition taking place at Powderham Castle that runs through to the end of October.

Featuring renowned creative artists Jane Perkins and Gillian Taylor - who are not just two exceptionally talented artists but also two of the nicest people to work with.

Definitely one for the diary and the exhibition will also feature as part of the Devon Open Studios event in September.

We are working on an off-site framing project for the next few days. That does mean we have no customer appointments available on Friday and Saturday this week.

But it’s only a brief change as we’re back on-site again from Tuesday next week as normal.

PS. Here’s a reminder of that lovely stitched Devon map with the open V groove painted mount decoration and painted multiple layer mount. With Alec showing the “big reveal” moment.
