Most of you will know that I have done advent calendars this year 🥰

So...because I'm a glutton for punishment, because a few of you have asked and because I love doing s**t like this...I'm making up some wax melt advent calendars too.

That's right...24 of the best selling, best smelling Scentsy waxes to take you all the way up to Christmas Eve 🥰

World Mental Health Day 💜

Today feels like the right day to share what Mental Health means to me. Many of you might be thinking well duhh....you're a mental health nurse! But to me, my career wasn't just about doing the job. It called to my heart.

For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a nurse. I started as soon as I could as a general nurse student....1 month before my 18th birthday. 18 months later I gave it up to join my then husband in Cyprus. Do I regret that? Absolutely not.

In 1997, aged 25, I started again....again as an adult nurse....loving it but still not feeling quite right. A year into the course I did my first ever placement at Millbrook and was almost attacked on my first day. Nose to nose with a particularly distressed patient I talked him down and ended up having a cuppa and a fag with him. And my love for mental health nursing was born.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, my passion for mental health nursing is still as strong 28 years later as it was that first day. I've fought so hard to make it...on my first day as a mental health student I found out I was pregnant with Cory, had to take 6 months off and go back a group and went from achieving grade As across the board for my assignments to scraping by with Cs after writing them with a nursing baby in my lap.

This career has given me so much and doing this job has seen me through the the loss of my eldest son, my dad and my gran, several relationship break ups and some pretty challenging times along the way. I have managed to claw my way into management and my intrinsic value at the heart of all I do remains doing my best for patients.

This warmer is so beautiful and every time I turn it on I am reminded of who I am and what I have not only achieved...but what I have survived.
