Case Study 🪟
This project involved upgrading an 18-year-old south-facing conservatory that was originally constructed by Abbey Glass using a traditional polycarbonate roof.
While common at the time, polycarbonate roofing offered poor thermal performance, resulting in a space that frequently overheated during sunny weather and became uncomfortably cold in winter. The homeowners wished to transform the conservatory into a room that could be enjoyed all year round, prompting the need for a modern, insulated roof solution.
The primary objective was to replace the existing roof with a warm tiled system designed to provide significantly improved temperature regulation. Equally important was the requirement that the new roof blend seamlessly with the existing architecture of the property. This meant carefully selecting tiles that closely matched those on the adjoining bay window to maintain aesthetic consistency and preserve the visual character of the home.
A lightweight, high-performance warm roof system was chosen to meet these goals. The system featured layered insulation, strong yet lightweight structural components, and tiles specifically selected to complement the home’s roofing style. Special care was taken to ensure compatibility between the new roofing materials and the original 18-year-old conservatory framework, allowing the structure to be upgraded without requiring a full rebuild.
The completed project resulted in a vastly improved living space with stable year-round temperatures, enhanced comfort, and a more unified exterior appearance. The homeowners now enjoy a conservatory that functions as a true extension of their home rather than a seasonal space limited by temperature extremes.
