Morning ☀️

Here are some of my recent pics. The kitchen project is on hold now until July, when we’ll tile the walls, add sone counter-top cabinets, and install a new worktop. So I’m having to be super patient until then, which I don’t find easy at all!

But the DIY island, antique Welsh dresser, and DIY extractor fan have breathed some fresh air into the room and made it feel totally different.

My morning is full of footy before we go collect our new car/van later, which is very exciting! It’s electric, and I’ve never driven an electric car before. Do you have any tips, or is there anything I should know?

⭐️ EXTRACTOR HOOD ⭐️

We’re ripping out our existing extractor fan and replacing it for two reasons. One - it simply pumps the air back into the room, causing condensation and flaky walls. And two - I hate how it looks. No shade if you have something like this, but the black glass splash and has been driving me mad for a couple of years now. It never really suited the aesthetic of a country kitchen and getting rid of it has already lightened the space so much.

So I’ve bought a new extractor fan that will actually extract the air outside. But I don’t want to see it, so we’re going to build an MDF cabinet to sit it inside. And I’ll add a shelf too as I have a beautiful antique serving plate and nowhere to really store it, so it can go pride and place on the shelf.

We’ll be tackling this over the next few days as it needs to be ready for worktop templating day next week, as the fitters will be measuring the space for the splash back. I’ll show you how we do it - and on a shoe string, as usual!

⭐️ KITCHEN ISLAND DEMO ⭐️

Here’s where we’re up to with operation kitchen island; transforming an antique Ecrol cabinet into a fully functional island.

After fitting the slatted shelf, adding wood panelling to the back, and adding new brass hardware, it was time to build the open shelving at the back.

I wanted sturdy, thick shelves, so I bought a long piece of window sill and cut two shelves from it. We cut notches into the front and back of the shelves so they’d sit flush into the unit and the legs. We used two pine staircase spindles as the legs, which just needed trimming slightly to be the perfect height.

Top tip: make sure you use a spirit level to make sure your legs and unit are level with each other, otherwise your worktop will be wonky!

We then added a gorgeous brass rail with hooks before staining the new wood with five coats of wood stain. And I think it’s looking pretty fabulous!

Now I’ll waterproof the cabinet (essential in a kitchen) before the white quartz worktop is fitted in a few weeks. I can’t wait to see the final result.

What do you think? Happy to answer any questions you have ⬇️

Operation kitchen revamp is coming together!

I’ve now chosen as absolutely beautiful quartz worktop for the kitchen and cabinet I’m turning into an island - check out my stories for a closer look. The tone of the worktop blends perfectly with the warm paint colours I’ve chosen for the cabinets, walls and woodwork. I can’t wait for this all to come together.

This project was never about just making the room prettier, I’m making changes to make the kitchen serve us better. I was so sick of every cupboard being overflowing and not being able to find anything. Part of this revamp is about adding new storage and reviewing and reworking the storage we’ve already got. I’ve already moved our pots, pans and utensils to more accessible parts of our kitchen, which has been a game changer! Sometimes even small changes can make a huge difference.

Next job will be to finish off the island and build open shelving at the back. The materials for this are on order, so look out for that soon! Then I’ll be getting this gorgeous worktop templated, and I’ll share the process of that with you too.

What do you think to the plans? The pic 3 is a Chat Got-imagined image of how it may look.

What does the coffee table of dreams look like I hear you ask? This is it ⬆️

It’s very rare for me to buy new furniture these days as I tend to buy what I need second hand - it’s cheaper, more sustainable, and (usually) better made. However, when this gorgeous bobbin coffee table popped up in one of my social feeds, I knew it was perfect for the living room.

Unfortunately the beautiful bobbin legged footstool I made a few years back has given up the ghost - primarily down to two rambunctious 9-year-olds and a puppy who love nothing more than to jump on it from a great distance. But don’t worry, I’ve kept the beautiful strawberry thief fabric and bobbin wooden legs for future projects.

We’re actually using this mainly as a footstool, snd it’s also got a really handy storage area underneath. I managed to find a scalloped wicker basket that fits perfectly, which keeps the annoying Nintendos out of view.

My next job will be to make a pretty cover for this, as there’s no way this will survive in my house uncovered. Ruby (the puppy) life’s nothing more than to dig up the allotment outside and gone bounding into the living room, straight onto the settees and footstool. Furniture covers are a permanent feature.

If anyone really life’s this and wants to get it too, I will warn you that the legs aren’t real wood, which I was a little disappointed about given the price. But, it looks realistic enough for me to overlook it just this once!

Let me know below if you’d like to know where anything is from ⬇️

I’m working in Sheffield today and I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather as I know there’s a weather warning in place. Stay safe if this horrid weather - I’m so, so ready for spring. Have a good day ❤️

⭐️ HAPPY CHRISTMAS ⭐️

Christmas 2025 will be a tough one to beat, that’s for sure. We took a leap and did something completely different this year and went away for Christmas, just the five of us. We knew we didn’t want a sun holiday (that would be too weird at Christmas I think), so we opted for the picturesque English countryside and chose a barn conversion in the Lake District, nestled in the Yorkshire Hills.

The standard of property really made this holiday - the large open plan kitchen/living area meant we could potter about cooking, cleaning up etc and not be separated from the kids. And if you’ve seen my stories, you’d have seen a closer look at the most beautiful kitchen, which has made me want to rip mine out and start again! The twice-daily hot tub visits were also a real treat, and I’ll miss looking out at the beautiful scenery with a glass of bubbles in hand.

It’s been absolutely incredible and, aside from a walk in the hills, we fight actually leave the barn. I guess we all need to just rest and recoup.

We’re on our way home now and I’m sure we’ll be back. How was your Christmas?

It’s been a chaotic couple of weeks, getting ready for Christmas and navigating a particularly busy period at work. But, the presents are wrapped and sorted, and the out of office is on. We also hosted the boys’ birthday party yesterday, which entailed the obligatory day of cleaning and tidying beforehand. So now, chill mode is fully activated (and I’m still in my PJs).

Even our Christmas food shop has been sorted and will arrive later today. After queuing for three hours in the supermarket last year, we said never again and pre-ordering an online shop has been a real game changer.

I feel like we’re ready for Christmas, and we’re very lucky to be spending it in the Lake District this year at a beautiful barn. I’ll give you a shark peak in Stories when we get there!

How about you, are you ready for Christmas?

A lazy morning in bed with my new book this morning. I’ve never read Wuthering Heights before but the recent movie trailers piqued my interest. And the book is so pretty it’ll look perfect on my book shelf once I’m done reading it.

But I can’t be lazy all day mind you, I have some cleaning to get to later - I’ll be focussing on the kitchen and bathroom, as well as some dusting upstairs. The fun never stops 😩.

How about you, what are you up to today?

⭐️ PROJECT FAMILY ROOM ⭐️

Our renovations always take a lot longer than we’d like, purely because, like most other people, we’re juggling kids and full time jobs. So, we chipped away at this room excruciatingly slowly for seven months.

Every time l’d step foot in this room, it used to bother me. The mountains of toys and plastic tat made the room feel messy and chaotic. And to be honest, the kids rarely used the room or the toys. So l yearned for something more stylish, cosy and welcoming.

Every inch of this space has been made over and, apart from laying the floor, we’ve done it all ourselves. We’ve found some new skills along the way - including tiling and fitting tongue and groove panelling, and I am still very much in love with the result.

I get a lot of compliments about the colour palette in here, and that’s all down to the beautiful wallpaper, which helped me pull out the colours I would use. Another wonderful feature of the room was the panelling, which gives the space a timeless, classic feel, and is a luxurious finishing touch.

I hope you love this room as much as I do. Happy to answer any questions you have below! ⬇️

A reminder of what the stairs/landing looks like now, and how it was when we moved in. And it was actually way worse than this, we’d already plastered by the time these pics were taken.

Anyone thinking of getting a runner, do it. It adds such character and a splash of luxury to what was a very underwhelming space. And to finish it off, be sure to add vintage style brushed brass stair rods - these were a bargain off eBay!

I still life this space but I’m now ready for a colour change. Any suggestions, let me know!

⭐️ PROJECT LIVING ROOM ⭐️

When I think back to how big and messy this project was, I wonder how we did it with three little children in tow. We had to strip the wall back to brick after our plasterer found damp. He added a damp course, treated the walls, then installed insulation board.

Add in some new double glazed windows and French doors, this is now the cosiest room in the house. We added a rustic oak floor, log burner, statement panelling, and classic wallpaper to complete the project.

I absolutely love the cosiness of this room and there’s nowhere nicer to sit and enjoy a coffee, particularly when the log burner is lit.

How about you? What’s been your biggest project to date?
