Park Gyeong-je started tending beehives almost five decades ago, making it his livelihood because he liked spending time in nature. These days, however, the changing climate is making him question how much longer he and his fellow farmers can survive.

A honey super.
So called as its a box used by bees for storing additional honey.
The name comes from the Latin word Super which means "above", "on top of", "over" or "beyond".

Why stick with one colour asked Luke when assembling the frame spacers inside. So we didn't. Red, gold and green. Think there is a song there somewhere...

𝗕𝗨𝗭𝗭 - 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥!

We had to stop and investigate. Phew, just a European Hornet. Thats cool.

Although, there is a reason to stop and check. This warm weather will be an ideal opportunity for the invasive (and highly destructive) Asian, or Yellow Legged Hornet to be seen.

We remain vigilant, set traps and monitoring stations. Spread the word and increase awareness.

🚜 🐑 🐄 Devon County Show 2026 🐄 🐑 🚜
A very busy week, getting things ready for exhibiting in the Bees and Honey tent.

Hats off to those who work tirelessly in the background getting the show ready and moving livestock. Its a truly colossal operation.

Entries were judged on the first day of the show. We are very excited to announce we placed in five of the seven categories we entered!
1st place - Item of interest, technical photo.
2nd place - Decorated super
2nd place - Under 17's photography
3rd place - Honey fudge
6th place - Item of interest to a beekeeper.

Great to spend time with like minded people and help run two of the stands as volunteers. 🐝 🐝

Celebrating the role of bees and other pollinators in our ecosystem. 🦋

The date is prominent as it was the day Anton Janisa was baptised. Janisa was a pioneering forefather of beekeeping, devoting much of his adult life to keeping bees and learning apiculture.
He became royally appointed as a teacher in and around Austria and kept bees in the imperial Gardens.

A stout lecturer, he also wrote two books which were decreed to be used in lecturing apiculture following his death in 1773.

𝙏𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜,
A completely normal and natural event ,with bees. They will endeavour to find more space, feed, divide and multiply. They will seek a new home to reside, like this elevated placement of a swarm box.
However, they will and can often be found in tightly knit colonies in trees or parts of a building.

Don't be afraid of them. They will rarely be aggressive, there is no brood (baby bees) or stores to protect. Get in touch with your local beekeper - like us. We can help relocate them.

Feeling the groove. But also a vital communication method for the inside of the hive. Welcome to the 'Waggle Dance'.
This gives fellow foraging bees an indication of direction and distance to available forage and food sources.

Running, evolving and building a business takes work, and investment. Especially in something considered mini-agricultural. 🚜 🐝

We picked up this honey press from the National Beekeeping Show earlier this year. An ideal piece of kit for pressing honeycomb that can't be rotationally extracted. Examples include early season Oilseed harvests or late season Ivy Honey.

Can also be used for pressing fruit for jams and apples for cider making, nifty! (hic). 🍎
