This unique project enables talented designers to work together in an inspiring environment, and also opens to the public to showcase their work. Come in and see where the creativity happens and buy something unique and special from the makers themselves.

What a fantastic day at designermakers21, in Diss.

Such creativity from so many!
Around 70 participants in our 'Have a Go Day', from age 4 to 74, experiencing cyanotype, weaving, peg looms, mini besom making, pronto print, fantasy extraordinaire in the ceramic studio, bead making, mosaic and lino print as well!
This really is what designermakers21 is excelling at, bringing wide ranging, creative activities to a huge, diverse cross section of our local community and at an affordable price.
The fundraising was helped by the generosity of our trustees Sarah and Jacqui, who sold cake and home made jams.
All the funds raised today go straight to designermakersCIO which enables us to increase, even further, the experiences on offer here at designermakers21.

to our wonderful volunteers on the desk.
But most of all thank you to all of you that came and took part, joined in and had a great time.

Mini besom and smudge sticks, creating a collaborative fantastical clayscape, pronto print and Lino cut printing, cyanotype, mosaic, bead making and weaving.

There will also be delicious homemade treats on offer, to keep the creative juices flowing! Hope to see you there 😁

Some wonderful photos from the Raku firing last Saturday here at designermakers21. Thank you so much to everyone who joined the workshops, I think we can all agree the results were fantastic!

It was a day full of excitement in sharing this magical process, many cries of delight were heard throughout the day as 24 potters’ works were expertly fired by Rob Wheeler

A huge thank you to Rob for enabling this firing to happen, providing equipment, expertise and a wonderful warmth and optimism. Great to share this process here in Diss- community, making and collaboration in action ; just what designermakers21 is all about ❤️

We’ve got the Raku bug now, here’s to more in the future- watch this space!

The eighth SAORI weaving exhibition at designermakers21.
This exhibition brings together weavers from around East Anglia showcasing hangings and wall pieces, clothing, accessories and more!

We are thrilled to welcome Louisa Redelsperger and Aleisha Blake to the Incubator Residency for the next three months, and equally to have Deb Cousins continuing her residency with us. You can meet Louisa, Aleisha and Deb in their studios upstairs in our residency space; with hugely varying (but equally exciting) practices, we cannot wait to see what they create. What a wonderful creative buzz there is here at designermakers21!

“I am a young designer, graduating earlier this year with a first class honours in fashion. As a qualified designer I am committed to elevating the lens through which we view the precious resources of East Anglia. I work strictly and sympathetically with natural, locally sourced materials to reconnect the fibre to the wearer and the wearer to the maker. I believe knowledge exchange and re-connection are fundamental to bringing about bositive change within the fashion industry, so I invite you to follow along on my journey with me on instagram and help to regenerate a thriving network of textile artists, designers, farmers and concious consumers within and beyond East Anglia.”

Aleisha Blake is an Artist/ Illustrator based in Norfolk. Her work uses raw, textural elements accompanied by fresh and bright colours. The subject of Aleisha’s pieces is a direct inspiration of her lifelong fascination and spiritual connection with the natural world. Al Blake illustration

Deb Cousins Deb Cousins
“I have lived on the Norfolk and Suffolk borders for most of my adult life, surrounded by ancient trees, and open fields and green spaces. I have also spent many of these years making and creating, and hungry to try out different crafts for pleasure and to sell.
I love strong bold colours and shapes which I want to bring into my art practice in a more expansive way.”

The Incubator Fixed Term Residency programme is generously supported with funding from East Anglia Art Fund (EAAF) and additional funding from the Arts Society Diss.

designermakers21 is open Thursdays to Saturdays 10am-5pm here in Diss.

Super delighted to have Andrea Hannon, Derek Johnson and Sam Crossley joining us, upstairs, as our new fixed term residents.

Andrea Hannon is a contemporary ceramic and mixed-media artist whose practice explores gender, identity and the relationship between women, the body and domestic space. "I am developing body of ceramic work, drawings and collage. These include sculptures and also hand drawn figures on thrown and hand built domestic ware. The body has always been a constant in my work, underpinned by tensions that surround the definitions, stereotypes and expectations of self in relation to being biologically female."

Derek Johnson
“The subject of my work at this time is 'mass // collision // rift // infinity'
I am producing 2D, 3D and moving image work that is a fusion of themes into a series of answers - // collision of particles as intergalactic planets of ice and carbon - the fall of empires - maps of thinking - ground code - vengeance - tranquility - sentinels - flat space - locomotives - the space between dimensions - physicality - machine gods - brutalist forms - dreams - archeology - sacrifice - tectonic shift - the end and the beginning //“

Sam Crossley
“I am primarily a painter and printmaker. My practice explores a combination of autobiographical and imagined experiences. I am interested in the mind, private thoughts, secrets and the things that happen internally but remain unseen.”

We are looking forward to the next three months, getting to know these extremely interesting and talented artists. New points of view, fresh ways of working, change is often a spark for creativity.

We have a brilliant Gelli Plate printing workshop coming up on Saturday 24th October, led by the lovely Deb Cousins! Deb Cousins

Come and spend a relaxing few hours, and learn the essential skills of making your own unique print designs using a variety of media and tools.

You will practice the basics of how to roll acrylic paints onto a gelli plate to produce an image. A range of available stencils and stamps can then create a layered effect onto your papers. Images can be also be printed onto a sheet to create your very own accordion book to take home!

Wood, metal and even bone!
Here at designermakers21 we have a vast choice of hand crafted metal, wood, and bone , work, produced either here on site or locally, by some seriously talented artists. David Whatley, Sally-Ann Utting, David Butler and Birks Holden would all be overjoyed if you come and admire their work... even purchase some for that special someone.
