Time we had a mantle above the log burner says Mrs H. ÂĢ80 sounded a lot, so off to the garage for a hoke. Found this 2x5 "plank" borrowed from the Carpet Factory 20 odd year ago and set to work.
Timber was really rough so planed down, distressed slightly with a rasp and then sanded smooth. Polished up and three coats of clear left over varnish from a previous job applied. After a few test holes drilled to get the best fit, it was secret fixed to the wall using a few 8mm bars cut from an old TV stand.... Good job!
Clashed with the oak mirror already there, so removed mirror from the wall took out the glass, primed and then painted frame black(all from leftovers) mirror back in and up on the wall
Cost? Nothing other than enjoyable time bringing it altogether ð
Clown Lladro seems happy enough with it too.
