A charming 18th century English barrel back settle.

Constructed in Elm and pine, which has developed both good colour and patina.

The original iron hook present is a nice feature. This would have been used to fix the settle to a wall.

Well proportioned and would seat three - four adults.

A rare Elizabeth I 16th century West Country boarded oak chest.

Simply constructed throughout from thick oak boards.

The side panels with traditional v shape cut away supports. The presence of the distinctive crossed saw marks to the apex on these panels is commonly associated with West Country furniture, from this period.

With the original forged iron hinges still present and remarkably still operational.

The oak has developed both good colour and patina throughout.

It is certainly a privilege to be able to handle pieces from this period, which have survived relatively unscathed and still remain usable to this day.

Additional details and price available upon request.

A Georgian Scottish laburnum vernacular Glasgow pattern chair.

Well constructed in the traditional Scottish provincial style. The elegantly swept crane-necked arm rests are supported on well formed turnings which are continuous with the front legs.

The backrest is uncommon in its design, utilising both horizontal and vertical narrow splats, with reeded detailing to their outer edges only.

It is more uncommon to see these wonderful chairs constructed in laburnum. It's intricate and well figured grain can be seen through the frame.

Glasgow pattern chairs were among the more common type of joined chairs made in Lowland Scotland during the 19th century, with local wrights making them in smaller number with their own artistic flourishes, and provincial nuances showing in the chair’s design.

An unframed Flemish oil on canvas dating to the early part of the 18th century.

The painting is a naive and charming depiction of a traditional tavern interior with three male figures at the centre of the image.

On closer inspection smaller interesting details are revealed. Various jars and vessels on the wall shelf, the open window with building in the distance. There is also a hat resting upon a barrel. All these details help to make up a wonderful scene that holds your attention.

An uncommon cased set of early 19th century c**k fighting spurs.

The period mahogany box has six internal compartments and contains two pairs of spurs, also known as gaffs.

The early Victorian steel spurs are all struck with the maker's mark initials I.W.
Each spur is hand sewn onto a brown leather leg binding wrap.

One pair with approximately 2 1/2" or 6.3cm curved spurs. The other pair with approximately 2 1/4" or 5.8cm curved spurs.

It is certainly uncommon to find 19th century spurs in their original fitted case. A must for any collector.

Within the case is also a curved needle which would have been used when binding the spurs onto the bird's legs. It is a nice addition having this present still within the case.

These fierce looking items would have been bound to the c**k's leg, with the bird's own leg spur passing through the ring opening.

C**k fighting was the ancient sport and gambling opportunity, which became a popular pastime in England during the 16th century.

Undoubtedly gruesome, nevertheless these make for a fascinating relic from our social history.
