A project update…
This is one of the smaller projects I’ve been working on over the past few months, and it’s lovely to see this room coming together.
The brief was to make much better use of this wall, creating storage for a sizeable collection of books while keeping the room feeling relaxed and personal.
The bookcases were designed around the room — and around the things already here. My client’s books, artwork, furniture and much-loved collected pieces all formed part of the design. The cabinetry is painted in Bone China Blue – Faint by Little Greene, a soft blue that works beautifully with the existing pieces and helps the whole wall feel integral to the room.
I wanted the finished result to feel established rather than newly installed: a room with character, where the practical elements sit comfortably alongside the things that make it theirs.
There’s plenty of useful storage behind the cupboard doors too, because however pretty a room is, it still needs to work!
The cabinetry was beautifully constructed and installed by Chris at Dunford’s Cabinetry & Joinery.
I’m so pleased with how this has turned out. I’m continuing to work with the client on the soft furnishings and styling, including lighting and window dressings, so there’s more to come.
