The Flower Pedlar

The Flower Pedlar As a Pedlar, I used to push my barrow of flowers around city centres but changing times mean change for me too.

I am now taking bouquet orders for beautiful freshly picked English Country Garden flowers grown by me in the Meon Valley.

A little bit of rain has worked wonders!

After all that dry weather, my flowers are finally growing much better — and I’ve popped a few bunches of gorgeous Cosmos onto my stall this weekend. I’ll be back to full service next weekend, with lots more flowers for you!

How I got my name. When I first started growing flowers, I’d make up bouquets, load them into my little trolley and head off into town to try to sell them. To do it properly, I needed a Pedlar’s Licence, which I got from the local police station. (Yes, the same sort of licence you might see used by people selling helium balloons.) It also meant I had to keep moving rather than simply setting up in one place. This photo was taken on a VERY windy day in Wi******er.

It didn’t really work — and looking back, I know why. People need to know your product before they have the confidence to buy it. They’ll happily buy a bunch of flowers if they know they’ve been properly conditioned, picked at the right time and will last well. They also need to know where to find you if something isn’t right. But if they’ve never seen you before, don’t know your flowers and, for all they know, may never see you again, why would they take the chance? The experience taught me a lot about selling flowers — but it also gave me something rather wonderful… The Flower Pedlar.
And the name stuck.

These days, it’s much easier to fill my little stall outside the house. People know where I am, they know my flowers and they know they can come back if they love them. So that slightly windswept day in Wi******er wasn’t a failure after all. It gave me a name that’s stayed with me ever since.

A garden-grown birthday bouquet, gathered fresh from the flower patch in all its midsummer abundance.

Filled with fragrant garden roses, airy cosmos, delicate campanula, sweet agrostemma, frothy yarrow and all the little seasonal treasures that make every bouquet unique. No two are ever the same – just a celebration of whatever is looking its very best that morning.

There’s something so lovely about giving flowers that have been grown slowly, picked by hand and arranged with the seasons rather than the supermarket shelves.

I hope these blooms bring as much joy as they did to me while creating them.
