Before you throw it out… 👀

An old lampshade can sometimes be taken apart and given a completely new life.

Same shade. New fabric. New personality. 🫶

Choosing the fabric is only half of the story.
The lining you choose can change the way a lampshade looks and feels when the light is on.
This is particularly noticeable with metallic linings.
Rather than simply letting the light travel through the shade, a metallic lining reflects light back out into the room.
That can make the light feel more luminous and can give the shade a completely different character once illuminated.
And then you’ve got the colour of the lining to consider.
Gold lining: warmer, softer, more golden light.
Silver lining: brighter, cleaner and less warm.
Copper lining: a rich, reddish glow.
Which means you can take one beautiful fabric and create a noticeably different result depending on what you put inside it.
This is one of those details that isn’t always obvious when you’re looking at an unlit lampshade.
Then you turn the lamp on…
and suddenly the lining becomes part of the design.
So when you’re choosing a bespoke or handmade lampshade, don’t just ask “What fabric is it?”
Ask “What lining is inside it?”
It could be the detail that makes the whole thing work.
Save this one. You’ll want it when you’re choosing your next shade.
