From dark grey tiles to Carrara marble. This bathroom in Portobello, Edinburgh took our breath away at handover. 🤍

Let us walk you through what actually happened here — because the result only makes sense when you see the journey.

The before — functional, but that’s about the most generous thing you could say. Standard builder-grade dark floor tiles, basic white suite, no character, no warmth. The kind of bathroom you use out of necessity rather than enjoy.

The during — and this is where most people don’t realise how much goes into it. Full strip-out to bare walls. New waterproofing layer across the entire floor and wet areas before a single tile went down. Every wall checked for level and plumb before we started setting out. Marble tiles are unforgiving — you cannot correct a bad set-out once you’ve started. The levelling clips you can see in the mid-progress photo? Every single tile on this floor was laid with them to guarantee a lippage-free, perfectly flat finish. With Carrara marble, even a 0.5mm variation between tiles catches the light and shows.

The floor pattern — octagonal marble with charcoal diamond insets — had to be set out from a central point so the pattern landed symmetrically in all four corners. We spent half a day planning this before the adhesive was mixed.

The after — full Carrara marble floor and walls. Bespoke curved vanity unit with a solid marble top, undermount basin. Aged brass fixtures throughout. A rainfall shower with thermostatic concealed valve. Recessed LED ceiling lights. A chandelier-style wall light that makes the room feel like a hotel suite.

The difference between the before and after isn’t just material. It’s how you feel standing in it.

The ceiling had collapsed after a leak from the flat above. Mould, damaged plasterboard, exposed joists — the kind of thing that looks worse every day you leave it.

We stripped it back, treated the mould, replaced the plasterboard, re-plastered the full ceiling, and fitted recessed lighting while we were in there. Clean, smooth, no trace it ever happened.

Took 3 days. Edinburgh flat, job done properly.

Wallpaper stripped, walls re-plastered with render mesh, cornicing picked out by
hand — a full redecoration in Trinity.

Full wallpaper removal and render mesh re-plastering throughout, followed by a
complete repaint — soft yellow walls set against crisp white cornicing, skirtings, and
staircase balustrade.

This is period plasterwork done properly: mesh-reinforced re-
plastering protects the original walls instead of just papering over cracks.
