Michelle Lowe Pottery Fun hand-made slipware pottery by Michelle Lowe I do not have a shop but I do keep work in stock and I am open by appointment (no regular shop hours).

I make a range of earthenware pots which are hand-thrown on a potters wheel and decorated using colour slips (liquid clays).

I’m such a happy potter - decorating in the sunshine.

And the sun and breeze are also drying the pots out beautifully in my new found drying spot on top of the chicken run (where neither chickens nor children can bash them).

A very exciting breakfast in our house today.

The kids ate toast from the toast racks they made themselves!

They made them by cutting round the same little templates which I used to make my toast racks. Their versions come out much quirkier and more characterful than mine though…

A couple of weeks ago, the very lovely came and spent a day taking lots of pictures of me and my studio.

I really like this one which she took through the window.

I’m not the easiest subject to photograph as I always feel very awkward when a camera is pointed at me, but she managed to take some great shots. We were lucky to get a beautiful sunny day. And she even managed some photos of the chickens!

I’m just about to put some of them up on my website and you’ll be seeing more of them on here soon.

(I’m currently waiting impatiently for my kiln to cool enough to open so I’m making myself do some computer work while I wait…)

Spring is on its way! Inside and outside the pottery there are signs of life…

The most exciting news our house is that our much loved little chickens who we hatched from eggs last Easter have started laying eggs! Some of them very tiny…

Inside the pottery I’ve got the kiln going and will soon be putting together collections for a few spring exhibitions.

Tomorrow I’ll be packing up pieces with spring flowers for the beautiful .

I’ve been playing!

I’m really pleased to have set aside a bit of time at the start of this year for mucking about!

Instead of getting straight down to restocking mugs and working on orders of my usual collections, I’ve been doing a bit of experimenting and trying out ideas that I’ve been pondering for a while.

I’ve also been pushing myself to make things without being really attached to the outcome and then actually fire them so I see what happens and learn from it.

There’s been lots of messing about with slabs and my texture stamps and I’ve also been working on a design for a new butterdish which is almost there…

Hopefully, I’ll have some exciting results to show soon!

A sea of new little soap dishes…

I’m about to load these into the kiln for their first firing.

All being well, they will soon be on their way to on the beautiful Isle of Harris.

hello!
Long time no see.

Hope you’ve also survived January… I’m still here, doing my little thing in this crazy world.

I’ve got my kiln on for the first time this year (actually full of things I made at the end of last year). And stacked on top of it are lots of drying pieces for the next firing…

Meanwhile, I’m very cozy, enjoying the kiln heat and about to start making some butter dishes.

Hope you are also cozy somewhere!

Happy new year! Wishing you a wonderful 2026. I also want to thank you so much for your support in 2025.

My year in the studio has begun with a mountain of pugging.

I had great intentions to tackle my clay recycling heap at the end of last year… but I was taken down by a horrible cold which I still seem to be struggling to shake off so I ended up hibernating instead.

I’m on it now though and enjoying piling up lots of fresh clay - full of potential for the year ahead.

I’m also very delighted to have found my stamp which I use on the base of all my pots. I lost it many months ago and today dug it out of one of the bags of scraps. (Thankfully before it went through the pug machine!)

A good omen for the year to come I reckon.

Thank you so so much to everyone who supported my winter shop update. I’m so grateful.

It’s now all done! The parcels are all on their way and my online shop is shut until next year.

Thanks to your generosity, I was able to donate £900 to towards their important work tackling refugee destitution and supporting people seeking asylum in Scotland.

For anyone local, I’m still about until Christmas and have plenty of pots in the studio if you want to arrange to pop by for some Christmas shopping.

I’m about to embark on a massive studio tidy up so it will even be pleasant and presentable if you want to come and visit!

Thank you again so much to everybody who ordered items from my winter online shop.

I’ve just unloaded my last kilnful of the pre-ordered pieces and will be packing them up today and tomorrow so they should be arriving very soon!

Just in case you had your eye on anything, I will be closing my online shop tomorrow so there’s still time to sneak in a last bit of shopping!

Lots of pieces have gone, but there are some nice toast racks left and I’ve just uploaded a little bit more availability of small pieces like spoon rests and soap dishes.

Thank you so much as ever for your support and for making it possible for me to keep doing what I love doing!
