A little chair with a big transformation!

This small child’s chair has been given a complete fresh start after being reupholstered in Oxford Eco 100% recycled cotton from Warwick Fabrics UK Ltd

Oxford also benefits from a green EasyClean finish, achieved through a unique breathable ‘EcoElite’ TM coating – the first plant-based repellent developed for the textile industry.

Durable, environmentally friendly and easy to clean ....what's not to like !

Now, when it comes to running a business, we’ll be the first to admit that we don’t always get everything right! 😄

But when it comes to the actual upholstery… well, after almost 40 years of practising, we reckon we’re getting half decent at it! 😉

Beautiful furniture, careful workmanship and decades of experience. That’s the bit we know best.

These four dining chairs arrived at our workshop looking rather worse for wear. The existing upholstery was in a sorry state, with the seats no longer providing the comfort and support they once did. Full reupholstery was required to bring them back to life and make them comfortable for everyday use once again.

I can take no credit for the work on display here as the work was carried out by our valued team member who is consistently showcasing their attention to detail, skill and craftsmanship.

The chairs were upholstered in Warwick Fabrics' EasyClean Casual range in the beautiful colour Leaf. This smart, practical and hardwearing fabric is ideal for dining furniture, offering both durability and style for busy homes.

To complete the look, each chair was finished with a hand-made braid created from the same fabric and secured with Bronze Renaissance decorative studs, adding a classic finishing touch that perfectly complements the design.

We're incredibly proud of the work carried out in our workshop and the high standard achieved on this project. These chairs are now ready for many more years of comfortable use around the dining table.

Thanks for looking. 😊

A big project completed for Teddy’s Restaurant at 108 High Street, Elgin.

We’ve recently had the pleasure of completing a substantial upholstery project for .elgin

This was a big undertaking for our small workshop, with a considerable amount of work to complete, organise, store and turn around.

We’re really proud of how the whole project came together and although our team is small we ensured the work was completed and installed in time for the grand opening 🙂

A real team effort, with a big thank you to our apprentice/trainee upholsterer who really excelled on this job. Also thank you to my son who came out in the evenings to help with all heavy lifting associated with a job of this size.

A huge thank you to Gordon for once again choosing Raymond Mackenzie Upholstery and trusting us with another project. Repeat business means a great deal to us, and we really appreciate the continued support.

We’d like to wish Gordon, Melissa and the whole team at Teddy’s every success with their venture. We hope the newly upholstered seating serves them and their customers well for many years to come. We hope to visit soon and try out the seats and the food for ourselves.

Thank you for supporting a local business and choosing to refurbish rather than replace.

So, it has been a while since sharing any work on here. It has just been a particularly busy time, both in and out of the workshop. As a result, concentrating on the actual upholstery work has been the order of the day.

Lots to share, but thought I would resume posting with this chair which was recently completed and returned to a delighted customer.

The chair had great sentimental value to my customer and it was a privilege to be entrusted with the upholstery work.

Lots of pattern matching and hand-sewing were involved in the process. Hours of intricate and labour intensive work were required to achieve the desired finish.

As an upholsterer it is important to take the time to stand back (not for too long of course🤣)and admire the finished result....the satisfaction is even greater when your customer also appreciates
your efforts.

All the work is our own but the surroundings in one of the photos are very much a 'camera trick'

Thanks for looking, and we will not be leaving it so long for the next 'show and tell'

We were privileged to be asked to undertake the reupholstery of these dining chairs and stools.

The chairs were of great importance to our customer as they were hand-made and upholstered by her father-in-law over a period of several years in the 1970's.

Although the chairs look identical there were subtle differences in each one due the bespoke nature of their manufacture.

The upholstery work was carried out a couple of chairs at a time so that our customer always had something to sit on.

The work itself was very much a team effort with apprentice and upholsterer working together to produce the finished result.

Scratch resistant leather supplied to us by Wildman & Bugby.

A satisfying job that was enjoyable to do.

Thanks for looking 😊

This pair of sofas were completely reupholstered from the frame up . As there was some doubt as to the fire safety aspect of the original upholstery, all the original covers and foams were removed in order to make way for compliant fabrics and fillings.

The fabric was from Leckford Weaves range by with the cord being supplied by our customer.....a lovely combination.

Now back sitting proudly in their fishing lodge home on the banks of the famous River Spey.

Sofas like this deserve a bit of 'pampering' so one of the photos has been edited to show off the finished result in a more luxurious setting than our untidy workshop....can you guess which photo ? 🤣

Thanks for looking 🙂

Who remembers the fable about the ugly duckling ?

For those of you who are familiar with this tale you will know that the moral of the story is 'Don't judge a book by its cover'

Before buzzwords like 'upcycling or 'side hustle' were a thing, this young upholsterer had great plans to find beaten up old chairs, do them up and sell them for a profit. Sadly like many of my ideas this never really materialised, and as the years progressed, I became so busy working on customers furniture, there was little or no time for any side projects.

Anyway, I think its fair to say this Facebook Marketplace find could be described as an ugly duckling. I am guessing its age but I reckon if it was human it could be claiming its state pension !

Our aim with this chair is to show how this tatty piece of furniture can be transformed into a thing of beauty that anyone would be proud to own.

So, if you are interested follow along and watch step by step as this project progresses....audience participation will be welcomed .

Due to the label on the original upholstery this can only be known as "The Peter Pan Project" 🙂

And by the way, unless anyone wants to buy this chair this will very much be a 'spare time' project......just putting this out there 😂

This corner dining bench has been given a complete revamp here in our Lhanbryde workshop.

To begin with the old covering was removed. Extra foam was then added to improve the comfort levels. The original faux leather has been replaced with this smart Aquaclean Hythe fabric in the Granite colourway from . We say this every time but these Aquaclean fabrics really are outstanding in terms of value for money, durability and the fact that most household spills can be cleaned with just water...an ideal choice for busy households.

Another project completed.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look 🙂
