er years of coming to the Bakewell Rock Exchange as a visitor, today was my very first time on the other side of the table as an exhibitor! 😍 And wow, what a first day it was!
It has been absolutely packed, and I’ve loved every single minute of it. Meeting so many passionate collectors, chatting with fellow rock enthusiasts, and seeing the busy crowds made all the preparation worth it.

It’s official—a last-minute spot opened up and we are heading to the Bakewell Rock Exchange this weekend! 💎✨ We’ve been on the waiting list for what feels like forever, so to say we’re thrilled is an understatement.

We’re packing up some of our absolute finest mineral specimens (including a few featured in this video!) and making the trip.

Proof that you shouldn't judge a stone by its rough exterior
Because so many of you were amazed by yesterday's post, here is a close-up look at the optical translucency of these natural obsidian nodules from Arizona.
Unlike solid black obsidian, true Apache Tears often reveal a delicate, smoky brown or olive transparency when held up to a strong light source.

Dark on the outside, light on the inside, and tied to Arizona history 🌵

The name Apache Tears comes from a 19th-century legend of the Apache tribe in Arizona. Following a tragic battle on a cliff overlooking Superior, Arizona, the grieving families of the fallen warriors wept for their loss. Legend says their tears turned to stone upon touching the earth, creating these dark, rounded nodules of volcanic obsidian so that whoever holds one will never need to cry again in sorrow.
