Exciting new yarn arrivals!
If you fancy adding some fun and magic to your projects we may have just the sparkly/fluffy/colour joy that you're looking for!

New from Rico we have Fashion Wool Alpaca Landscape and Creative Make It Blumchen.

Creative Landscape is a stunning 4ply blend of wool and alpaca lightly spun onto a strand of polyamide. It's a soft and fluffy yarn available in a choice of five glorious colour ways. This versatile yarn could work up as a 4ply or sport weight yarn. You could use it as a light and open DK, or alternatively hold it with a strand of something else for a thicker fabric. One of our customers did this with a strand of Coopknits Socks Yeah and very quickly crocheted a beautiful headscarf. Thank you Anna for letting us share your photos! 💖

Creative Blumchen is a fine strand of Lyocell with tiny sparkly sequins - perfect for holding alongside a thicker yarn to make something special! Our wonderful teacher and volunteer Jackie made herself a cowl with a strand of Blumchen and a skein of silky yarn that was hand-dyed by Debbie for the shop's 10th anniversary - a very special project!

We've gathered together some of our favourite spooky and autumnal skeins, kits and fiber braids as Halloween approaches, but there is so much in store to inspire and keep things crafty and fa-boo-lous this season! 🧙🔮👻🎃

Here's the wonderful Jackie who teaches our Professional Finishing Techniques classes. She teaches the details of how to finish your knitting; blocking, seaming, picking up stitches, and ways to keep everything tidy. This workshop is one of our most transformative! Knitters leave the session feeling empowered by their new skills and encouraged to finally sew up their unfinished projects!

Professional Finishing Techniques is one of our most popular and highly rated workshops. We have places available for this workshop on Saturday 24th October from 10-12.30 as well as other options available to view on our website. https://www.woolontheexe.com/products/professional-finishing-techniques

Jackie is such a generous teacher, passing her on her expert knowledge and enthusiasm at these classes, as well as volunteering her time on a one-to-one basis at our Fix Your Stitch sessions. All funds raised from Fix Your Stitch sessions are donated to our local food bank. Thank you Jackie Millichap

Triangular shawls are so popular right now and you can crochet your very own with us this Wednesday!

We still have places available for our highly rated Journey Shawl workshop. As long as you can confidently crochet the basic stitches, our lovely tutor, Sam will teach you the method to make this beautiful shawl. Once learned you can make multiple shawls using all different yarns - just chose match the hook size for your chosen yarn thickness. These shawls could be ideal for gifting this season!

A full 200g ball of Batik Swirl or Jewelspun will be provided in your choice of colour for the workshop.

Here's a lovely review from our website - thank you Ruth!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ New found love - Crochet Shawls
Loved the session I joined in Wednesday, learning how to make a crochet shawl. My previous crochet experiences have been granny squares and a cotton face cloth, so I was expecting this to be a challenge! However, our tutor was brilliant - clear with explanations ( " like turning the page of a book" to demonstrate turning your work at the end of a row!) And patiently helping individuals when we made a mistake or lack confidence.
My shawl is not yet complete, but I'm cracking on with it, and it won't be the last one! Thank you! (Tea and biscuits were lovely too!)

The sample shown here was made by Jane using Creative Melange Alpaca.

Those interested in natural dyeing might like to have a look at this artist's talk at RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum)

Illustrated artist talk with Hilde Hauan Johnsen & Amy Shelton
Dates and Times: 4 October 2026 11:00 – 12:00
Price: Adults £10.50, Students £5.50
Location: RAMM

https://rammuseum.org.uk/whats-on/illustrated-artist-talk-with-hilde-hauan-johnsen-amy-shelton/

Sámi artist Hilde Hauan Johnsen has travelled from Sápmi, Norway, in the Arctic region to show her artwork in RAMM’s exhibition Living Labyrinths: Art and Fungi. For Hilde’s first public talk in the UK, she discusses her fungi-dyed textiles alongside a philosophical approach to making and ecology with Exeter-based artist Amy Shelton.

Hilde is a textile artist based in Northern Norway whose artistic practice is rooted in the land where she lives. Johnsen works with natural dyes from foraged plants and fungi. She uses these materials to interrogate the concept of national borders. In Johnsen’s work, natural dyeing becomes a way of holding landscape and memory together.

Amy Shelton is a visual artist and founder of Honeyscribe, a visual arts charity that leads creative projects centred on people, plants, and the natural world. Amy creates botanical artworks of plants which she gathers and preserves. By collaborating with other specialists, each artwork illuminates a specific locality, highlighting the relationships between biodiversity, human and environmental well-being.
