Maxine Whitbread-Abrutat is a Cornish artist living on the wild, North Atlantic blue coastline in Rose, Perranporth who has been inspired from a young age by the beauty and draw of the Cornish landscape. 🌊

Maxine’s practice has a focus on the emotive questioning of landscapes. She reflects on the power, structure, and beauty of the Cornish coast, looking at the nature of its sweeping energy and scarred appearances. She experiences the landscape through the effects of place, time, movement, seas, colours, space, and the relationship it has with people.

We are so pleased to have this brilliant exhibition by Maxine on display, pop in to see it when you’re in Falmouth! 🎨

I have been waiting to light the candles in my new home for months, and I think I finally have an excuse now the seasons are changing!

One perk of owning an artisan shop, is that even lighting candles can be a lovely experience!

This bright blue candleholder has been made just down the road in Penryn, by lovely Lisa.

Just £22, and available online and in the Falmouth shop. They are also a popular choice for gifts 🎁

We have had a brilliant start to Joe Morris’ new exhibition in the gallery space - have you popped in to see it yet?! 🎨

Joe’s artwork is both ancient and contemporary, drawing upon pre-history and universal geometry to create art which occupies a realm somewhere between painting and sculpture.

Tadelakt lime plaster has been used in Morocco for centuries as a decorative wall covering. Joe has developed his own unique techniques to create artworks using this ancient material, subtly blending pigments and carving into the surface to create the image.

Oh hello? It’s me? 👀

My lovely social media lady seems determined to put me front and centre of this page!

I’m much more comfortable celebrating the other artisans whose work we stock in Inspire Makers, but whenever I can find spare time, I’m creating fused glass homewares in my studio. Which are sold under the name Article Glass on the website. ⚡

My favourite pieces to make are these little stem vases. 🌷

It’s been a big year already for our artisan shop in Cornwall, and we’re searching for new artists and makers to welcome - could it be you? We are especially keen to introduce some new brilliant printmakers, raku and soda fired pottery, and unusual jewellery! 🎨

Submitting your work to independent shops and galleries can feel like a real chore (especially when you’d rather be creating) so we’re going to make it as simple as possible.

If you are based in Cornwall, and feel a kinship with our Inspire Makers ethos of supporting local creatives and offering unique wares, we’d love to hear from you.

Simply leave a comment on this post, with a picture of your work and a short sentence about you.

We are looking for something we don't currently have so please check the selection on the website before applying!
