🧵 #08 — WEAVING IN ENDS

🧶 DID YOU KNOW? — CROCHET EDITION #08

Crocheter:

“IT’S FINISHED!!!” 🎉🥳

Also crocheter:

Looks at the 37 ends hanging out of it…

“Well… finished-ish.” 😂

How can I happily sit there making THOUSANDS of stitches…

…but weaving in six ends suddenly feels like an unreasonable amount of work? 🤣

It’s fine.

I’ll do them tomorrow.

Narrator: She did not do them tomorrow. 😂😂

So which one are you?

😇 TEAM A: Weave them in as you go.

😈 TEAM B: Leave them until the end, regret your decisions and then stare at them for another three days.

I’m saying nothing… 😋

🐔 #07 — YARN CHICKEN

🧶 DID YOU KNOW? — CROCHET EDITION #07

Forget Formula 1.

Forget extreme sports.

Nothing gets the heart racing quite like…

6 STITCHES LEFT.
8CM OF YARN. 😳🧶

Welcome to YARN CHICKEN. 🐔😂

Suddenly you’re crocheting faster as though that’s somehow going to create more yarn.

Nobody speak.

Nobody move.

NOBODY BREATHE.

I’ve got this. 😳

And when you finish with 2cm left?

🏆 OLYMPIC. GOLD.

The feeling of achievement is completely disproportionate to what has actually happened. 🤣😂

Come on then…

Have you ever WON yarn chicken — or are we not ready to talk about it? 👀

🇬🇧🇺🇸 #06 — UK vs US CROCHET

🧶 DID YOU KNOW? — CROCHET EDITION #06

Congratulations! 🎉

You’ve learned your crochet stitches.

You know your double crochet.
You know your treble.

You’re feeling pretty pleased with yourself…

Then you download an American pattern.

AND APPARENTLY YOU KNOW NOTHING. 🤣😂

🇬🇧 UK double crochet = 🇺🇸 US single crochet
🇬🇧 UK treble = 🇺🇸 US double crochet

Same hook.
Same yarn.
Different names.

ABSOLUTE CROCHET CHAOS. 😂🧶

So here’s today’s little tip:

👉 Before starting a pattern, ALWAYS check whether it’s written in UK or US terminology.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s started crocheting before checking… 👀😂

🐸 #05 — Why do crocheters FROG?
DID YOU KNOW? — CROCHET EDITION #05

Have you ever heard a crocheter say…

“I had to frog the whole thing.” 🐸

No actual frogs are involved. 😂

Frogging simply means undoing your crochet.

And why do we call it frogging?

Because you rip it, rip it… ribbit, ribbit. 🤣🐸

The worst bit? Realising the mistake you made 12 rows ago and sitting there wondering whether you can just pretend you haven’t seen it. 👀

Spoiler: once you’ve seen it, YOU CAN’T UNSEE IT.

Come on crocheters… what’s the most you’ve ever had to frog?

#04 — Starting chains

Hands up if your first ever crochet chain was so tight you could practically use it as a tow rope. 😂

One of the most common things I see when teaching beginners is starting chains that are far too tight.

And then comes:

“Andrea, I can’t get my hook in!”

Relax those hands, loosen that tension and give that poor hook somewhere to go. 😂

Crochet is supposed to be relaxing… although I’m not sure anyone told the starting chain.

What did YOU struggle with most when you first learned to crochet?
