It's british flower week this week...and every week for us throughout the season. Reason number five? Unmatched fragrance! Every time we walk into the studio we are greeted with the most heavenly smells. Whether it is the heady lilac, sweet scented stocks, perfumed roses or the familiar nostalgia of pine in the winter, every stem has its own contribution to make. Our flowers are so beautifully fragranced as their scent isn't dulled by chemicals or refrigeration. They reach you within hours of growing in the field. There is something so very special about this.

It's british flower week this week...and every week throughout the season for us. Reason number four is about being kinder to the planet. Small scale flower growers provide much needed chemical free habitats and food sources for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. They are a low carbon choice, cutting the impact of transportation emissions and heavy refrigeration of imported flowers.

It’s British Flowers Week and our favourite way to source flowers is direct from growers! Already conditioned, never out of water, always within 24 hours of picking (often only 12!) these are from Heather, at English Flowers by Heather in Milnthorpe.

It’s not just about the flowers! Look at this incredible selection of organically grown foliage from
Nicky, at Little Ware Foliage near Canterbury. We work with Nicky all year round - she makes many of our willow wreath bases too. British Flower Week is all about the foliage too!

Celebrating British flower week by giving you a glimpse into how we source our flowers. Part one …flowers sent by a British flower specialist distributor based in Cornwall. Scented stocks, elegant iris and quirky agapanthus!

It's British Flower Week...and we buy british every week throughout the season. Reason number 3 is choice. We used over 100 different flower varieties last year. many of them seldom spotted in a supermarket or traditional high street florist relying on imports. Many of the varieties we use would not survive the methods importers use to prolong the life of flowers that have to travel 1000s of miles to reach us. Our flowers haven't been treated by chemicals, or chilled and transported across the world. We collect them in buckets of water, already conditioned, ready to work with 24 hours after they leave the field.

It's British Flower Week this week...and for us it is british flower week every week throughout the season.

Reason number 2 is to support british (flower) farmers who work sustainably. Most of flowers come from Sophie, at North Star Botanicals and Heather, English Flowers by Heather, both in Milnthorpe. They both grow organically, no harmful chemicals, harnessing natural sources of heat and water.

We love nothing more than the trip to collect flowers...and to say hello to the chooks!

It's British Flower Week this week...but as you may have realised we celebrate british flowers and foliage every week throughout the season. So, this week, we are going to share some reasons why you might choose to support british growers when you choose flowers.

So reason number one...seasonality!

We reckon nature is pretty smart and knows which flowers go (and grow) well together. So we let nature be our guide. I love being able to 'place' a bouquet in its season. This one was for a beautiful early spring wedding in March this year. We have hellebores, narcissus, ranunculus, rosemary, tulips and spirea in this celebration of spring.
