I was sent the photos of the completed Gimli the Dwarf helmet. Doesn’t it look fabulous? At just 17 years old, and this being her first time using Powertex, I think she has done an amazing job. She recently made this at a workshop with me but took it home to complete the mammoth task of adding the gold patterned details. I can’t wait to see the photos of the full costume in a couple of weeks once they have attended the Comic-Con event.🙂

The results of Days 2, 3 and 4 of the dabble days project. I have covered them all in fabric. I gave 3 of them the coat of dry brushing with mocha pigments before adding the paperdec and sand and balls for extra texture so I could see the highlighted areas and those areas needing more texture. The darker 2 you will see have not been dry brushed at that early stage - I went straight into adding the texture before colouring. Clay fungi has been added with stoneart clay I made. The next step is to coat the sand and balls with Powertex universal medium to ensure it is all weatherproof. Once they are all dry I can then start dry brushing them to colour them.

Powertex is weatherproof after 3 weeks so is great for Guising in all weathers.

Here is a recent helmet I made as a mock up for a tailor made workshop I ran recently and some props I made for a circus performance my class did last term.

In preparation for colouring the helmet for my latest workshop, I had fun playing with the 4 different shades of gold and the 2 shades of silver to see which ones worked well together for the colour palette we needed. In the end she chose the antique silver with dry brushed highlights of silver and the clear gold for the gold patterns.
