FLOWER HOOPS! 😍🌸

I loved making these for a recent wedding.

Orchids and calla lilies arranged around delicate hoops, carried by the bridesmaids instead of traditional posies.

I carried the same gorgeous , pink callas carried through into the bridal bouquet.

Consider this your reminder that there is no need to follow the usual rules (what are they anyway?!) when it comes to wedding flowers.

There she is... Autumn showing off again. 🍂

Dahlias, grasses, seed heads, turning leaves and all those slightly faded peachy, caramel tones that just look so gorgeous at this time of year.

I'm not saying autumn is our favourite season for flowers (mmm - though maybe I've said that before but - shush) - come on - it’s making a fairly convincing case. 👀

The highly sophisticated Willow & Sage photography department at work....

1. Don Minion worthy dungarees
2. Find decent light (not always easy with our unpredictable skies!)
3. Put flowers down.
4. Stand on something.
5. Lean precariously over them.
6. Try not to cast a shadow. (this bit is really hard!)
7. Take approximately 47 photographs.
8. Realise the first one was probably fine.

While I completely understand that grabbing a supermarket bouquet can be convenient - if you're looking to impress, even best isn’t going to cut it....

Here I combined pink anthuriums, dahlias, nerines, gerberas, berries and eucalyptus - it was a proper armful of flowers, all lovlingly crafted, right here in our Four Marks studio.

So please stop by or jump online, if you're saying 'Happy Birthday', 'Thank you', 'Congratulations' or 'Thinking of you' and even if you've no reason whatsoever (the best kind in my opinion - we are very supportive of buying flowers just because you want them!)

I adore letting the season lead the way...

This country-style funeral wreath was filled with all the things autumn does so beautifully.

We took soft roses, berries, seed heads, grasses, changing leaves and lots of natural texture.

We don't subscribe to the idea that funeral flowers need to be formal or traditional.

Arrangements can be wild, garden-like, colourful, simple, or filled with flowers and foliage that remind you of the person they’re for.

That's what I think, anyway!

Well, this was rather a lovely way to spend a morning. 🍂🌸

We packed up the car with flowers, foliage, pumpkins, pine cones, wheat and rather a lot of autumn, and headed over to Westlands Care Home for a flower arranging workshop.

And look what they made. 😍

Everyone started with much the same collection of ingredients, but by the end of the morning there was a table full of completely individual arrangements.

Which is one of our favourite things about running workshops. There really isn't a “right” one at the end.

A little choosing, snipping, arranging, changing your mind, moving something back to where it was in the first place... and eventually knowing when to stop.

Thank you to everyone at Westlands Care Home for having us. We had such a lovely morning.

Some places really do make our job rather easy… 🌸

We had the pleasure of filling this beautiful old church with flowers for a wedding at the weekend.

Soft pinks, peaches and deeper plum tones, with dahlias, astilbe and plenty of loose, natural greenery. Big enough to hold their own in the church, but still a little wild and relaxed.

From flowers spilling out of stone windows to arrangements around the font and beside the lectern, we wanted everything to feel as though it belonged there.

Wedding flowers don't have to follow a formula. We love working with the season, the setting and the people getting married to make them feel completely at home on the day.

“I’d love to do one of your workshops, but I’m not very creative…”

We hear this ALL THE TIME. 😂

So, for anyone wondering, here's what actually happens when you come to a Willow & Sage workshop:

We show you what to do. We help when you need us. There are plenty of flowers to play with. And somewhere along the way, the slightly nervous “I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing” has a funny way of turning into “Hang on… I MADE THAT.”

And that's rather the point.

These are some of the beautiful arrangements made at some of our recent workshops in the shop. Same guidance, same sort of flowers, and every one completely different.

No floristry experience required. Promise. 🌸

I say it's never too early to have something lovely in the diary!

So it's rather fortunate that there's a whole lot of loveliness coming up at Willow & Sage over the next few months.

From meadow boxes and autumn wreaths, then (it's September - we promise we won't switch on Mariah just yet but...) Christmas wreaths and a table centre just in time for the big day. 🍂🎄

ALL of them involve making something beautiful to take home.

And you absolutely don’t need to know what you’re doing.

Come on your own, bring a friend, persuade your parent/sibling/work spouse that this is essential profession
