We love adding banquette seating to family homes šŸ˜Ā Whether it’s a freestanding bench seat or more of a built-in unit, they’re the best way to maximise space in a dining area, especially if you have a snug footprint!

As well as being practical, saving space and providing extra storage, banquette seating is also a great way to add colour and pattern into your home with fun upholstery.

There are so many great suppliers that offer performance fabrics, meaning they’re resistant to spills, fading and wear, making them the perfect choice for a dining space. Some of my favourites are from Christopher Farr Cloth,Ā Thibaut andĀ mariaflora.

Tip: Local upholsterers can make this sort of thing for you, meaning you can specify any fabric you like!

A little re-introduction, as there are quite a few new faces around here šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

I’m Lara, founder of Lara Clarke Interiors, an interior design studio based in Farnham, Surrey. We specialise in creating beautiful, hardworking homes designed for family living. And after sharing the two children’s bedroom schemes at our Frensham project, it turns out quite a few of you love fun children’s spaces as much as I do! 🄹

Designing children’s bedrooms is one of my favourite parts of what I do, creating spaces that feel magical now, but also become the backdrop to so many lovely childhood memories.

I’ve always believed that homes should spark joy. I love using colour, pattern and texture, alongside a mix of old and new, to create spaces that feel personal, layered and completely you.

Rather than having a rigid ā€œsignature styleā€, myself and the team work closely with each client to understand how they live, what matters to them and what their home needs to feel like theirs.

Before starting the studio in 2016 (10 years ago now!), I trained at KLC School of Design of Design and worked at leading design practices, gaining the experience and knowledge I needed to eventually take the leap and launch my own studio.

So, hello if you’re new here! Expect plenty of family-friendly interiors, designed to be lived in and loved šŸ’š

We love designing children’s bedrooms and this little girl’s room was all about creating somewhere that felt magical, playful and completely personal ✨

The starting point was the beautiful Ottoline wallpaper, which set the tone for the whole scheme. From there, we wanted to make the most of the room’s wonderful 3m-high ceilings, and that’s where the idea for the built-in bed came in.

Rather than simply filling the room with furniture, we took the bed up into the height of the room and created a little secret den underneath. Tucked away beneath the bed, it’s a space to read, play, hide and make memories.

We also wanted to make sure the room worked hard, so plenty of storage was built into the bed itself, with cupboards, little doors and the sweetest MG&Co. handles, alongside the ladder leading up to the bed šŸ’š

The original fireplace was another opportunity to add a really personal touch. Six different Delft tiles from House of Petra were carefully chosen, each with a little connection to her, giving the fireplace its own unique story. We did the exact same in her sister’s bedroom too 🄹

This is the first of two girls’ bedroom designs at our project in Frensham šŸ’• The brief for the bedrooms was to create spaces that felt playful, personal and full of little surprises.

In this room, the starting point was this beautiful wallpaper from Lewis & Wood. We loved the subtle mix of blues and pinks, which became the foundation for the scheme. The built-in bed sits against the window, allowing us to keep as much floor space free as possible. We made the most of the 3m-high ceilings and created a little reading nook at the top, reached by a ladder, with hidden storage tucked into the steps below.

A little door beneath the reading nook leads to another hidden den. We love creating these moments of discovery that make a kids bedroom feel really special 🄹

The original fireplace was given its own personal touch with Delft tiles from House of Petra. Six of the tiles were carefully chosen to reflect something personal to the little girl, adding a story and meaning to the space. We loved the idea so much that we recreated the same detail in her sister’s room, with six tiles chosen especially for her.

Keep your eyes peeled — we’ll be sharing the second space very soon…

Behind every polished video you see, there’s usually a LOT of this šŸ˜‚

There’s now 10k of you following us here, so we thought it was about time we shared some of the outtakes. As much as we love sharing the finished projects and beautiful spaces, there’s a lot of laughing, stumbling over words and starting again that goes on behind the camera.

So, here’s a little glimpse of the reality behind the reels…
