A little behind the scenes… 🐂🤎
Today we took a trip to the beautiful A.W. Midgley & Son in Cheddar, where we went hunting for the perfect hide for one of our clients’ antique chairs.
Choosing leather for an antique piece isn’t just about finding a colour you like. The character, grain, texture and natural markings all play a part in finding a hide that feels right for the age and story of the chair.
So many beautiful hides to choose from… now comes the hard part! 😍

One of my current projects is this beautiful, yet particularly challenging, little Chesterfield armchair.

This piece has certainly tested my skills and patience, but it has also been a fascinating project to work on. I’m taking the time to carefully restore and rebuild the chair, combining traditional upholstery techniques with a meticulous attention to detail.

Here’s a glimpse of the progress so far. There is still some way to go, but the transformation is already beginning to reveal the character and craftsmanship of this lovely piece.

Another chair given a new lease of life. ✨

I’ve just completed the woodwork and upholstery on this beautiful old English armchair, bringing the timber back to life and giving it a completely fresh look in this gorgeous botanical fabric.

The chair has all the character of traditional Victorian/Arts & Crafts furniture, with its turned supports, stretchered frame and wonderfully crafted timber. Forms like this were rooted in English country furniture and became especially influential during the Arts & Crafts period.

I love restoring pieces like this — keeping the character and craftsmanship of the original while giving them a new life for another generation.
