PULP STUDIOS DESIGN HOUSE have been extremely busy on site getting venues ready for the festive period. Today we showcase CHAKH DHOOM inside the New Kent Hotel on Osbourne Road, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
We were asked by our client to help generate new business within the hotel. The brief was to convert the rather bland and uninviting hotel breakfast room into a destination restaurant for locals and visitors to the area alongside hotel patrons.
During the day and evening, the restaurant will be serving intricate, authentic Indian street food dishes and cocktails. Concurrently, the space had to remain a comfortable environment for the hotel's breakfast service.
This is a broad and contrasting offer and the balance between these had to be all embracing.
We decided to introduce the warmth of lighting, colour, funky wall imagery, and evening romance alongside the existing flooring and loose furniture. All the while, not ignoring the buildings own style with Georgian proportions to room dividing screens which help to embrace a typical English breakfast setting.
A tricky one, but I think we've cracked it by not leaning too far in either direction. At any time of the day, we're sure patrons will understand their environment and their offering.
