Kreative Lighting Studio Kristina Barnes provides a creative architectural lighting design service. Combining creativity with innovation.

Kristina has 20 years of designing lighting, from hotels to residential. Kristina Barnes has over 20 years experience in lighting design. She has worked in London and Edinburgh for three major lighting design practices working on many award winning projects; Dpa Lighting Consultants, Isometrix lighting + Design and Kevan Shaw Lighting Design. She also worked for Apex Electrical and Park Electrica

l where she gained extensive experience in the commercial side of the industry. Gaining outstanding knowledge of lighting regulations and technical requirements. Kristina’s passion for lighting first started from theatre design. This grew further when she studied Interior Design at Leeds Metropolitan University. Kristina’s greatest achievement to date has been working on the 5 Star Rockliffe Hall Hotel. She had the opportunity to prove her outstanding knowledge, creativity and a passion for working as a team. We combine a creative and innovative approach to lighting design with an understanding of the complex technical requirements. We bridge the gap between the architect, interior designer, engineer and the contractor. Understanding the decorative elements, the architectural features, the technical requirements, and the cost and practicalities. Our approach to any scheme is to ultimately provide a building with a unique and special identity. We fine tune an environment through the creative use of light, turning them into beautiful spaces.

Skylights by day.
Atmosphere by night.

On grey days, soft integrated light keeps these spaces feeling calm and considered. After dark, it turns skylights from black holes into dramatic architectural features.

It’s all in the detail. No visible LED dots, perfectly straight lines, and clean, continuous edges. Whether it’s plasterboard overlaps, Orac profiles or timber coving used on site, the finish has to be precise for the light to feel effortless.

Always a challenge. Always worth it.

First week back and straight off to Yorkshire. Freezing, beautiful, and one of my favourite places to work.

This project’s been on the go for nearly a year. Even with only half the lighting in, it already feels good.

The beams, the stone, the scale of it. Once the rest of the lighting goes in, it’s really going to come alive. Warm light on the stone, structure picked out, all the depth and atmosphere you don’t get by accident.

We spent most of the meeting obsessing over the small stuff. Lighting tucked into shelving, inside working cupboards, the details no one points at but everyone feels.

From here, all of the lighting is carefully layered to shape the atmosphere within the kitchen.

Architectural lighting sets the foundation with softly lit skylights, plastered in downlights and subtle curtain lighting 💡

Handblown glass pendants by Rothschild and Bickers create a warm, refined focal point above the island ✨

Handcrafted stools by Nick James Design complete the bar area, adding craftsmanship and texture 🪵
All brought together through carefully scene set lighting using a Lutron control system 🤍

After two years from concept to completion, this incredible home is finally complete — and we couldn’t be prouder of the transformation.

Working alongside the amazing team at Musson Brown Architects and the fantastic Lauren Reece Interiors, we brought this stunning property back to life.
Our focus was to create a space that felt:
✨ warm
✨ inviting
✨ architecturally expressive
✨ rich in colour, texture and atmosphere

Every area was carefully layered with light — and Kreative Lighting Studio supplied every single lighting product for the project, making the process seamless from start to finish.

A huge thank you to MGISD, whose craftsmanship and coordination were exceptional throughout. Seeing this home illuminated and glowing exactly as envisioned is incredibly rewarding.

And the biggest thank you for outstanding project management which made all our lives easier . I
