Fruit trees and bushes arrive today for the beginning of orchard and fruit garden- 3 plums, 5 blackcurrants, 5 apples, 3 blueberries, 3 brambles, 24 raspberries, 3 cranberries, 3 rhubarb, 3 gooseberries, 1 redcurrant!!

Scottish Fruit Trees still has still got good stock levels of plums pears and apples, as well as soft fruit, hazel and filberts for planting this year. We will be at the Orchard Collective event in Glasgow on Saturday and we will take can take orders then. Also a chance to try some of our delicious Clydecider made with Scottish apples. We send trees all over Scotland, from Shetland, to Lewis and from the Borders to Campbellltown.

Fruitful SkillsSuccessful Fruit Growing in ScotlandJohn Hancox, Chair of Scottish Orchards and Director of Commonwealth Orchard is delivering a workshop at 1.30pm on Saturday 21st November at Kingsknowe Golf Club on successful fruit growing in Scotland. An expert in both heritage and modern varieties of fruit trees and bushes, John will be providing Friends of Hailes Orchard and Woodland and our guests with:• A talk on successful fruit growing in Scotland;• An opportunity to ask John questions about your own experience of fruit growing and which varieties are best suited to your own conditions; and• A practical demonstration on pruning and planting fruit trees.There is nothing like learning from a specialist but space is limited so please book your seat. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are £3.00 for Friends of Hailes Orchard and Woodland and £5.00 for non-Friends. Please book your seat by sending an email to [email protected] is no cancellation charge but because space is limited if you find you can’t attend please do let us know in advance so others may attend.The practical demonstration will be held outside and will be somewhat weather dependent. Please wear suitable clothing for conditions on the day.About John HancoxJohn has done a huge amount to encourage the resurgence of fruit growing across Scotland. He has developed the Fruitful Schools and Commonwealth Orchard projects to help develop community fruit growing in Scotland. John is also a member of the Scottish Government’s Grow Your Own Working Group and has given evidence to the Scottish Parliament on the health and community benefits of fruit growing. John also organises the Holyrood apple day at the Scottish Parliament.We have received support from the City of Edinburgh Council to hold this event and thank the Council for their ongoing support to the Friends of Hailes Orchard and Woodland.
