Building Warrant APPROVED for our First Avenue project in Netherlee.

We love how this single-storey rear extension is shaping up. By introducing large, windows and glazed doors across the rear, we're opening up the back of this traditional home to flood the new living space with natural light.

We can't wait to see the physical work begin on this one!

Houlet Studio is officially sponsoring the 10th tee at Cathcart Castle Golf Club ⛳️

For many, a tee sponsorship is just a bit of local advertising. For us, it is a return to a place that is woven into our family history. Our connection to the club spans three generations and several decades.

My mum, Susan, had her very first job here working behind the bar in the 1970s. My grandfather, Bill Burns, was the Club Captain in 1981, and that same year my uncle, Alan Burns, was Junior Champion. Alan also founded the Chick W**d tournament.

Lorna also started her working life at the club over 20 years ago as a waitress. One of her more vivid memories is serving me and my family Christmas dinner while wearing a reindeer bow tie, right at the very start of our relationship!

Now, as husband and wife and the founders of Houlet Studio, it is a proud moment to re-establish that link. As a Chartered Architect Practice, we are passionate about the local community, so supporting a landmark like Cathcart Castle felt like the perfect fit.

We are also starting a new routine. We’ll be at the club every second Wednesday morning discussing projects; If you happen to be a member or are just in the area, please feel free to stop by as our guest and join us for a coffee.

We would love to answer any architectural questions you might have about your own home, whether it involves extensions, renovations, new builds or something in between.

Bathroom Mood Board: Having discovered the leak from the bathroom had been rotting the floorboards and base plate of the bathroom wall we are having to accelerate our bathroom refurb. Lorna has created a mood board to get the creative juices flowing.

Big news for our Alexander Avenue project. We’ve just received Building Warrant approval for this internal renovation, moving us one step closer to making this vision a reality.

The goal here is all about connection. We’re transforming the ground floor into a seamless, open-plan kitchen and dining area that flows effortlessly into the home's existing extension. By stripping back the barriers, we’re creating a light-filled heart of the home that feels cohesive and intentional.

Now that the paperwork is in and the design is set, the search for the right builder is officially on!

Project Update: Easdale Place, Newton Mearns. Building Warrant Approved.

​What began as a plan for a single-storey extension at our Newton Mearns project transformed into this stunning double-storey realisation following our initial site survey.

The revised brief looked to maximise functionality and create a layout that truly worked for the client’s requirements, and this double-storey solution provided the perfect answer without compromise.

Lismore Place Project: Receiving the planning permission today for this single storey extension really brightened up our Monday morning as we have found that planning applications are currently taking longer than usual as planning battle a heavy workload.

The extension for this bungalow creates a large new living room that takes advantage of the amazing views of the Campsies. This also allows us to reconfigure the internal layout to make it function better for the clients and create a better division between the private and public areas of their home.
