✨A landmark transformation in the heart of Edinburgh 🏨

We’re excited to share the completed public areas and new restaurant, , at Mount Royal Hotel Edinburgh by The Unlimited Collection by The Unlimited Collection, part of the Ascott Limited portfolio.

Following the successful refurbishment of 158 guestrooms last year, Bell&Swift were appointed to reimagine the hotel’s public spaces, completing a full-scale transformation that reflects both the character of and the aspirations of its new brand identity!

Inspired by Edinburgh’s landscape, history and literary heritage, the design narrative draws on the colours of Princes Street Gardens, the romance of vintage travel and the city’s enduring storytelling culture. Natural materials, warm lighting and layered textures create a contemporary hospitality experience, while bespoke detailing and carefully framed views connect guests to the unique character of the city beyond.

This £10 million investment by Ascott marks a significant new chapter for the hotel, and we’re proud to have delivered both the guestroom refurbishment and the complete redesign of the public areas as part of this ambitious project.

👏 A huge congratulations to our talented team, who led the project from concept and technical design through to completion and FF&E procurement. Seeing a vision carried through every stage of the process and brought to life in the finished spaces is always incredibly rewarding.

We’re excited to share that we completed on site last week at by Marriott 🌟

The Bell&Swift team delivered full Interior Design services and FF&E procurement across this exciting refurbishment, spanning all 107 guestrooms alongside the public area reception, dining and lounge spaces.

Set within Edinburgh’s vibrant Quartermile, the brief called for a design that balances business and leisure travel while embodying Residence Inn’s signature “home away from home” feel. Our response was “Urban Meadows”; a concept inspired by the nearby Meadows park, brought to life through warm textures, natural materials, Scottish heritage, and local artistry.

A huge shoutout to our project team Craig McKie, , .mccaul & for their incredible work in bringing this project to life 🙌

We were also instrumental in assembling the wider project team William Dunn, Bryan McGhie, , RSP Consulting Engineers - Part of Drees & Sommer from concept through to final delivery, we worked closely with all stakeholders to ensure a commercially smart, creatively strong outcome.

And a huge thank you for all the support from Catharina Kahler Chris Pilling, we can’t wait to see guests enjoying the refreshed hotel!

This project is a great reflection of what we strive for at Bell&Swift: delivering spaces that are strategic, creative, and commercially impactful from concept to completion.

Bell&Swift will be in Berlin next week for the International Hospitality Investment Forum (IHIF EMEA) ✈️

Our Managing Director Dawn Campbell & Associate Ashley McCabe will be attending across the week, connecting with industry partners and joining some of the events around the forum.

IHIF is one of the biggest weeks in the hospitality calendar, bringing together owners, operators, investors and brands from across the industry.

Our focus is on hospitality design and the environments that shape how guests experience hotels, bars, restaurants and spaces across the sector. Being close to the conversations that influence where hospitality is heading from investment and development through to brand and guest experience is an important part of staying at the forefront of the industry.

Meet Ashley McCabe – Associate

Ashley brings over fifteen years commercial interior design experience to Bell & Swift. As part of the leadership team, Ashley works closely with Dawn and Craig on new client projects, managing client relationships and driving strategic growth for the company. Ashley also provides support to the wider team, ensuring that Bell & Swift’s mission, vision and values are reflected in every project.

With extensive experience within hospitality design, her impressive portfolio includes high-profile commercial projects with renowned global hotel brands like Mariott and Hilton as well as independent operators.

Being on site is one of the parts of the job we love most seeing decisions come to life and shaping spaces as they’re built.

These visits are where drawings meet reality, walking the spaces, reviewing details in context, and making sure the design intent translates seamlessly.

Working closely with the main contractor team is a collaborative, hands-on process that makes all the difference.

We designed the F&B spaces as a vibrant social hub where guests and locals can connect over craft beer and great food. Inspired by the energy of the neighbourhood and passing rugby crowds, the interiors combine warm timber finishes, bold upholstery, and dynamic lighting to reflect both local spirit and lively hospitality.

From communal tables and flexible seating to subtle nods to local sports culture, every detail encourages social interaction whether it’s a quick drink before the match or a relaxed evening with friends.

Celebrating Glasgow through hospitality design ✨

At and , we reimagined both hotel’s public areas to create inviting, dynamic spaces that are true to their brand yet rooted in Glaswegian history.

As a Glasgow-based studio, these projects were especially meaningful to us. Our interior-led approach prioritised guest flow, operational efficiency and layered storytelling by refreshing layouts, carefully considering finishes, updated furnishing, and layered design details which brings new energy to these key social areas.


With both properties nominated for ‘Prestige Scottish Hotel Awards 2026’ we’re proud to play a part in shaping the city’s hospitality landscape.
