How bloody brilliant is that!!

What a lot of folk are following along with my colourful little corner of Instagram! 😂
Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen when I started this account!

A huge THANK YOU to every single one of you!

I thought this might be a good excuse to introduce myself properly to those of you who are new around here, and share a few things that even some of my longer-standing followers might not know about me!

When I started Lockdown House back in 2020,
I had absolutely no idea where it would lead.
It was just a wee hobby to keep me occupied during a very strange time in my life.

Six years later, I’ve made wonderful friends, discovered a whole new career, started a business and had more fun than I could ever have imagined!

And all because I started sharing pictures of my house on Instagram. Who knew?! 😂

So whether you’re here for the colourful interiors, the occasional bit of DIY, the Glasgow chat or just to see what I’m getting up to next, I’m absolutely delighted you’re here! 💗

And my mission- Just to keep having fun, doing new things and saying yes to new opportunities!

Now I have told you lots about myself here but I’d love to know a wee bit about YOU!

I used to absolutely HATE our hallway! 😂

When we moved into our Glasgow mews house, the entire place was painted the same beige-grey colour. Upstairs it looked OK, although a bit like dirty magnolia, but in areas with no natural light it was dismal. And with three landings, three narrow staircases and nine doors of dismal, there was rather a lot of it!

And unbelievably, we lived with it for THREE YEARS!

But the funny thing is, I didn’t really notice how drab it all was. Life was just very busy, I was honestly a different person then, and I simply didn’t spend any time thinking about it.

Then came cancer, followed immediately by Covid and lockdown, and suddenly I was at home most of the time for 15 months. I started looking at our house very differently.

My first instinct was to follow all those decorating rules about keeping dark, narrow spaces light and bright. So we painted the whole hall white.

And it looked like a string of hospital corridors! 😂

So I ditched the rules and went green! Green Smoke walls, Down Pipe doors, and suddenly the whole space had some personality.

I also knew I wanted a gallery wall. I had to give that staircase character! During lockdown, when none of us knew if or when we’d be travelling again, I came up with the idea of a travel gallery wall running up the stairs.
And that worked even better than I’d imagined!

The staircases haven’t got any wider and there’s no more natural light, but what a difference colour and art have made!

And I’m STILL not finished! 😂

I’d love to lift the carpet and have a stair runner, replace all those white plastic sockets and switches (once you see them, they cannot be unseen!!) and find a more attractive handrail. Although I haven’t the faintest idea where you buy a handrail!

But when I look back at that before photo, I think I’ve done pretty well. It might have taken me three years to notice how dismal it was, but I got there in the end! And now I love the whole quirky hall!!

When you fall in love with a wallpaper… and end up designing your whole bathroom around it! 💛

Because that’s exactly what happened here!

I fell for this gorgeous Fleur Orientale wallpaper from and everything else followed. Black panelling, a black ceiling, brushed brass fittings, a freestanding bath and a stand alone brushed brass shower.

I know a dark bathroom isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and this a small bathroom- but I absolutely love ours! And I especially love having visitors because this is their bathroom, so they get to enjoy it too!

It’s been finished for a while now and I still wouldn’t change a thing. I just love it!

So I think a vintage find is lovely… but making it part of your home is the best bit

I absolutely love mixing old and new, and it turns out it works in my house - so I thought I would share some of my favourite finds.

Like everything colourful in my home it all started in 2020. The bureau and red table came from Facebook Marketplace during Covid,during the year I was shielding while I had cancer treatment . My up-cycling started as a distraction and an experiment Then, when things worked, it became a fun hobby and a comfort too. And now look! The wee red table had a grey phase first but I like the red much better! That colour is Red Cuillin by Isle of Skye Paint Company by the way!

The Singer Sewing machine table was my first proper vintage find — one I actively sought out. Made in at the Singer factory at Kilbowie, Clydebank in 1904, it means a lot because my family has huge connections with Singer and Clydebank.

The antique chair came from a wee antique shop in Clydebank Kean On Antiques . I had it reupholstered in Timorous Beasties fabric — old and new together! The tiny chairs came from the same shop. Apparently I collect chairs in every size…

The eye chart was spotted on found@'s Instagram and collected within hours. It came from a local old optician’s on Byres Road in the West End so I’ll have walked past it often over the years!! A wee piece of familiar history, now in my house.

The original Hyndland tram sign came from Hometown Signs at a West End market, and the vintage Norwegian “Annemarie” vase from trove With that name, it had to come home!

Some things I’ve changed- painted or upholstered- ohers I’ve loved just as I found them. They all help make this house feel like home — and being honest this house still gives me comfort and distraction when life is a bit difficult.

So this is a very late September diary… October has rather run away with me already!

I started the month with fabulous sunshine in Santorini with Mr LDH—those sunsets, the views, that w**e tasting at Santo Wines… and we even had our own wee plunge pool! A week of total blissful relaxation, and it was just what we needed!

Then there was some lovely autumn light around the house, and a very fun awards night with John Amabile Interior Designer where hannahgracedavidson and I were guests of the Ideal Home Show Scotland team - thank you to them!!

So a bit of home, a dream holiday , a little w**e… and Paco making himself comfortable as always!

It's so lovely to look back at these moments.
My insta is my way of making sure I take the time to appreciate them all.
So far my year of saying yes has been full of great things.

A wee wander round our living room 💙

Life is very busy just now. very busy!
So here is a wee look at some favourite living room shots!
All the same room, all the same Hague Blue, looking quite different depending on the light.

I love the dark walls with the warm wood, colourful cushions, flowers and lamps. Lots of things to look at. Collected over time!

Paco seems quite happy with it too… although his main interest is always getting the sofa to himself 😂

I know we all moan about Instagram sometimes, I have done it myself recently- but I have to give it credit for introducing me to some fabulous small independent businesses . So I thought I would share a wee selection .

I’ve bought from every one of them, and quite a few of them I’ve gone back to again and again. So these really are my own recommendations.

rebeccalawvintage upholstered the chair in the photo — and two more chairs for me.

By Catriona painted that wee portrait of me- how good is that - and I’ve bought lots more of her portraits as gifts.

And Jasna of Jasna Memic made the blind you can see here, plus another blind, bench cushions and a lampshade. I love Jasna!!

The two prints are by Jacqueline Rooney | Irish Artist who I have never met - she lives in Belfast - but who I enjoy a wee chat with on insta now and then and I know I am going to meet Jacqueline in real life one day!

my Hague Blue socket is from C H A M E L E O N 🦎 and has absolutely enhanced my Hague Blue living room. There will be more Hague blue help from C H A M E L E O N 🦎 !!

and 53 Interiors | Lampshades & Homewares made that fabulous pink fringed lampshade — as well as my gorgeous coat rack.

And Waterside Hideaway is where I went to my first ever Christmas wreath-making workshop! I am booked again for this year!
