I’ve got visitors coming so I have totally tidied my house. It might never look like this ever again.

And I’m sure I’m supposed to say something knowledgeable or interesting about Interior Design, but I’ve got nothing to say about it today, is this is my house and although all the rules apply, it’s really difficult to expand on Interior Design theories when you’re just looking at all your own stuff.

I just see all the faults.

Trims are back.

Passementerie ( the fancy French term for it ) adds a layer, a texture, a bit of dimension. It’s the detail that takes a scheme from nice to finished.

There’s an interesting pattern in design history: when money has felt tight, hems go down and textiles get richer, a statement of recovery and aspiration if you will .

Swags and tails are returning because all that fabric and handiwork signals you can afford it. It’s not a science but it is recurrent .

The good news is that a little goes a long way. A braid on a cushion, a tassel on a curtain, a fringe on a lampshade. It make whole lot of difference - even a metre make a splash

Layers, texture and a little bit of fun 🌿

This scheme is all about bringing the outside in. A natural green palette picks up the garden views, then builds in plenty of texture through fabrics and flooring, with stripes and organic shapes popping up here and there to keep things playful.

Like a lot of my schemes, this one is layered, and it works around existing furniture and flooring. That’s something I really love doing. You don’t need to start from scratch to give a room something new. With the right fabrics, colours and finishing touches, we can update an entire space around the pieces you already have.

It’s for a beautiful family home in the north of Glasgow, so it needed to feel warm and welcoming, with a couple of very robust fabrics that can handle real life.

A Pierre Frey print, used like a toile across an entire room, in one of my London projects . Walls, curtains, the lot. It’s playful and full of life. And a real reflection of the bold client who chose this .

Today was a busy one - there was coffee and cake and chat and friends , friends with dogs , and new collections to see and some I loved and some I didn’t and and and

And now it’s traitors.

Season 2027 feels a long way off, but if you’re thinking about Easter bookings, now is the time to start planning.

This Fife cottage was a lovely turnaround: a comfy, family-friendly space that feels like somewhere you’d actually want to stay.

That fringe is doing all the work. Black and white tassels on a fold over heading , because tall tenement windows can carry a bit of swagger.

Tassel trim is having a serious moment, and I’m in love with that idea , because I love all the trimmings . ( especially at Xmas )

Layers. Texture. Colour.
Cushions with a lot of oomph!

This headboard is joyfully, unapologetically maximal, because the person who lives here is too.

But here’s what I really believe: a home should feel like the person inside it. For some, that means full colour and plenty of personality.

For others, it means a calm, restful retreat to come home to, even if their life outside is anything but quiet.

Both are beautiful.

My job isn’t to design in my taste. It’s to design in yours.
