Thankful Tuesday.

The most wonderful couple allowed is into their home to transform an old, cold, laminate flooring throughout and replace with a sensational soft saxony. Old henry got a fair workout in the massive living room but its the small touches (along with rehoming the fish tank) that made the customer call and thank us all.

Saturday Spotlight!!

Lamett do some of the most beautiful feeling SPC clicks on the market. They even do a real wood top one. Straight lay or herringbone options are available. There is also a collection of engineered woods to choose from.

These stands have been in the shop for a while but just got a front facing facelift which is much needed. The side on view almost hid it from customers so hopefully this will give it some much needed attention.

Flemings Friday!

This is a doozy. 2nd and 1st floor of a beautiful family home completed in the most lush, velvety feel soft polyester saxony. For when you want the softness without the flattening (as much - all carpets flatten!) This range is fast becoming our biggest seller and you can see why.

Underfoot, Understood!

New Cavalier Selecturns built today. They forgot to send the instructions but with a bit of patience and care we got them looking their best. Which pretty much describes perception of wool carpet. Looks like a lot of work but actually wool carpet is pretty forgiving if you stick to a few basics:

Day to day

Vacuum regularly, a couple of times a week in busy areas. Use suction only or a gentle brush head, as a harsh be**er bar can fuzz the pile.
Deal with spills straight away. Blot, don’t rub, and work from the outside in.

Stains

Use cold water and a tiny bit of wool-safe detergent (look for the Woolmark logo).
Avoid bleach, strong alkalis and anything harsh, as they damage wool fibres.
Don’t soak it. Too much water can cause browning or shrinkage.

Longer term

Get it professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months, using a low-moisture or wool-approved method.
Rotate rugs and furniture now and then so wear and fading are spread out.
Use mats at the door to cut down on grit, which is what really wears carpet out.

Shedding and fluffing in the first few months is normal for new wool, and it settles down.

Two carpets laid out at Flemings this week. A roll end and a special order. Both treated exactly the same.

Before any carpet goes out, we check the colour is what was ordered, the size is what was ordered, and we vacuum it to spot dirt, damage or stray fibres. We work on any polemarks too. If something's wrong, we can arrange a replacement, sometimes before your fit date. We have also met, checked and approved the fitters coming to your house. No guessing.

That's what buying in store gets you: someone checking your carpet before it reaches your floor. Borrow samples overnight, free, and come and see it first.

Night time when the phones stopped ringing, the lights (mostly) go out and its just calm. I wouldn't say its the best time of day but its the time I get most work done!

Not every floor we fit is straightlay…

Over the years we’ve fitted some pretty unusual floors — different patterns, , shapes, colours and ideas that you don’t see every day.

From intricate designs and awkward spaces to floors that needed a bit more thought than simply laying it down, these are some of the more obscure jobs we’ve had the pleasure of working on.

And that’s one of the best things about flooring — there’s nearly always a way to make an idea work.
