Our stores in Glasgow, Buchanan Galleries and Edinburgh, 117-119 George Street sell an extraordinary range of beautiful art and design products. Every penny you spend at the Scottish Design Exchange goes directly to the (300 and growing) hard-working local artists, designers and creators

– some work in living rooms or kitchens, some in small or shared studio spaces. It’s a model that’s caught the imagination of artists, shoppers, economists and the UK media. Here’s how it works. Each artist/designer pays a nominal rent for a display space. That rent pays for staff, marketing and upkeep while the artists retain 100% of their profits. It works for us all. That’s why we are growing. First Edinburgh, now Glasgow – who knows where’s next. We also have an online shop, and many more exciting projects are coming. BIG NEWS

We’re incredibly proud to officially relaunch Scotland’s first Art Bank inside our new Sauchiehall Street flagship store.

The idea is simple — creativity should be accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford materials. Massive thank you to

The Art Bank gives free art and craft supplies to charities, schools and community organisations, helping remove barriers and unlock creativity across communities.

Already we’ve supported organisations including DRC Youth Project and Flexible Childcare Services Scotland, with donations ranging from paints, sketchbooks and pens to fabrics, textiles and craft materials.

At a time when arts funding continues to be hit hard, this feels more important than ever.
A massive thank you to all of the artists, makers and members of the public who have already donated materials — this genuinely makes a difference.

The Art Bank is now fully built into our new Glasgow flagship at:

250–252 Sauchiehall Street
You can also donate materials at our Edinburgh store on George Street.

Let’s keep supporting creativity, community and making sure art stays accessible for everyone.

What a night!!

Last Thursday’s our flagship Sauchiehall Street launch party was a huge moment for SDX.

An incredible turnout, amazing support, brilliant conversations, and a real celebration of Scotland’s artists, makers and creative community.

From customers and artists to local businesses, councillors and press — it was fantastic to see so many people come together for this next chapter.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, supported, donated to the goodie bags, and helped make the night what it was.

And a special thanks to and for generously providing beers and Gin for the evening.

This move is about more than a new store — it’s about building something bigger, stronger and more visible for independent Scottish creativity.

We’re just getting started.

So, if you’ve ever been into our Edinburgh store, chances are you’ve met Linda.

Kind, welcoming, always going above and beyond, and just generally an amazing person (honestly, we could keep going) — Linda is a huge part of what makes SDX what it is.

Behind every sale, every conversation, and every great customer experience, there’s a team of people who genuinely care about supporting Scotland’s artists and makers.

Linda is absolutely one of those people, and it really shows in the amount of amazing reviews she receives online.

We wanted to start shining a light on the incredible people behind SDX, because they’re such a huge part of the journey too.

We’re really lucky to have her as part of the team.

Well we thought moving to our new glasgow store would get us noticed more and help us showcase our artists and makers.

What we didnt expect was to pop into our shop and support us.

Tori loved so much after buying her work, kindly invited Anita to her concert and got backstage and a catch up.

Absolutely buzzing for what the new store is doing for everyone involved.

This is the kind of thing people dream of.

A mixed emotions day.

At 6am we started clearing out our store. Which has been glasgow home for many years ......

But we are SO exited that Sauchie hall street is raking shape and the countdown for the opening is on...
