Mystery bowl! A classic pattern produced by lots of US glassmakers (Fostoria and Jeanette to name but two) and often called 'cubist', this bowl is a mystery because it appears that none of the US companies made it in this exact colour - certainly not with uranium in the recipe!

However, I really enjoy a mystery, and whilst my research hasn't yielded any definitive answers, I can say that it's most likely that this isn't American, and probably European instead, although the bowl does fit imperial measurements quite well - it is approximately 10" wide and 3" tall.

The piece is a really good glower and overall, it's in great condition. There is just a small fracture embedded in the base as pictured, but this completely stable and doesn't affect form or function. There is also bubble in one of the points on the rim that I keep thinking looks like a bruise, but pretty certain it isn't 😅 The glass is characteristic of depression-era pieces - there are small bubbles, tiny imperfections and strawmarks throughout, which in my opinion just adds to their character.

£23 plus postage of your choice for this lovely, interesting mystery. Payment plans and worldwide shipping are available as always, please don't hesitate to ask for more info 🩵

Back at it today after some time away at the weekend to catch up with old friends and attend a lovely wedding. Here’s a quick snap of Mr Goblin and me, just for evidence purposes that we do in fact own a hairbrush and soap.

I’ll be catching up with orders, admin and messages today and promise to get your goodies to you asap.

Yes, the necklace is uranium 😁

A showstopper of a cocktail ring - a vintage synthetic spinel in sterling silver 💚

This beauty is quite a striking piece of jewellery, with the stone measuring 12x16mm and the ring weighing in at 4.34g. I haven't removed the stone from the setting in order to get an accurate carat weight, but the estimate is 10.2ct. Size O ½ (US 7.5).

Spinels usually glow best under 365nm light, but I have to say this one does a great job under both frequencies. The UV photos shown here are using 395nm light as the fluorescence under 365nm was too bright to capture well with my camera 😅 I'll do some more attempts, but suffice to say you'll be happy with the glow!

The hallmarks are hard to photograph but clear enough to read, dating the ring to 1980 and assayed in Birmingham. It has had a basic clean in the sonic cleaner in order to show off the sparkle but retain the patina, but I can make it look brand new again if you prefer with a silver dip and machine polish - the choice is yours.

A sparkly deal of £100 plus postage of your choice. A bargain for such a big spinel!

Delicious Harrach basket with applied vaseline flora 🌺

This basket has a lot going on! Thorn handles, cranberry to clear gradient, crackle effect texture AND applied flowers and leaves 😅 This was made in that notable part of the Victorian era where more was definitely more 😆

An absolutely beautiful piece in PERFECT condition. No chips, cracks, missing parts or restorations…I’ve not even noticed a fleabite. Aside from a tiny speck of dirt in the impossible to reach places, this is as good as the day it was made some 140 years ago. Make no mistake; a truly immaculate piece is pretty hard to find these days.

All the applied decor glows beautifully and is complete. As is normal for glass of the period there is the odd speck of ash here and there, but given how busy the design is you’ll be hard pressed to find them 🔎

18.5cm tall and 16cm wide; a lovely size for cabinet display or to use as intended.

£75 to include tracked UK postage. Worldwide shipping and payment plans are available as always 💚

A classic and popular piece by Sowerby, the 2449 cake / bread basket. In the catalogue these are pictured with a metal handle, but most of the ones I've seen have lost this component in the intervening 90 or so years since their creation, and this one is no exception.

Regardless, it's still a lovely piece of glass and displays that great acid-green colour so characteristic of Sowerby. The basket measures 9.5" wide and 2" tall, a good size for both cabinet display and use (I kinda want to fill it with mini muffins 😁).

The glow is as you'd expect for Sowerby in this colourway - formidable! The basket is also in excellent overall condition; some minor scuffs and scratches - badges of use from its long life - but no chips. The only damage of note is a small fleabite to the base rim as pictured.

£24 to include tracked UK postage with Royal Mail. Worldwide shipping and payment plans are available as always - please don't hesitate to ask if you'd like more details 💚

A curious oil lamp…

I'm really not sure about this one. I'm honestly on the fence about what is making it glow, and without a more sensitive Geiger counter (or ideally a scintillator), I can only hazard a guess.

It's a beautiful lamp regardless, with its mottled yellow / orange font and its highly patterned base. Originally found on the Isle of Man, the wheel is marked as British made, but I'm unable to narrow it further than that. All parts are in good working order; only the metal tab on the cap that sits over the wick has broken, so it now simply sits on top rather than being fastened to the burner.

Now, about that glow. Under 395nm there is very little reaction, and the photos capture it even less well than in real life. Under 365nm, however, there's much more of a glow and I'd hazard a guess that both the orange glass and the white frit both contain small amounts of uranium. As uranium is naturally as abundant as tin or zinc, it is frequently present in the raw materials used to make glass. Its possible presence here could be accidental, hence the low glow. My Geiger isn't sensitive enough to convince me otherwise, and leaves open the possibility that the low radioactivity I'm picking up could also be another isotope like thorium.

Either way, this is a lovely lamp typical of the early 1900s, and looks great. To the top of the chimney it measures 50cm and 29cm to the top of the wick, with a base diameter of 15.5cm. An ideal piece if you like a pretty mystery!

As the jury is out on what is making this one glow, I'm pricing low at £75 plus postage of your choice. Worldwide shipping and payment plans are available.

Reminder… are you following my Whatsapp channel? It's a really simple way to make sure you never miss out on a piece you really want because you get to know what's coming up and when, BEFORE it goes live on Facebook and Instagram.

How it works
Whenever I have a piece coming up for sale, I post brief details in the WhatsApp channel, including the date and time it'll be available to buy. If it's something you don't want to miss, you can set an alarm / reminder to give you a nudge when the sale post goes live.

If you like the sound of that, then the link for the channel is in the comments, or if you’re on a PC then just scan the QR code in my picture.

Just in case you're on the fence, messages will only be from me, only about glass coming up for sale, a max of probably 5 a week and most importantly, you're in charge - you can mute or unsubscribe at any time.

Here's one I know several of you have been waiting for; a Davidson Pearline William and Mary oval salt. This one has come from my personal collection and has been used for actual salt when I feel like using my Pearline and being super fancy 😆🤩

This is the oval salt (they also made a round salt in this pattern) and measures approximately 1.5" tall, 2.75" long and a little over 2" wide. From my experience these are all quite a uniform size, so if you're trying to match a pair you should have no problem. The piece is in lovely condition, with just one chip to the side of one foot. The foot still touches the ground and the piece doesn't wobble - the damaged side is also easily turned to the back if you'd like it to be entirely invisible - see photos.

As is normal for Pearline, this glows incredibly well and generally contains more uranium content than your average green glass. Davidson is quoted as saying that they didn't worry too much about measurements - hence some of the pieces being quite saturated in colour and others less so, and why some are really quite spicy!

After a bimble around the internet, the prices for William and Mary salts seem to vary wildly. I try not to either over- or undervalue glass, so am going to entirely ignore the people asking for £70 for a single salt and price this at £28 plus postage of your choice.

Does anyone else have a serious weakness for bicolour beads? Look at this beauty 🩵💚

These are some of the most interesting shaped beads I have ever seen; they have a zigzag girdle around the middle which results in some amazing facets! The colours are just mesmerising - I found this in the wild out in the sunshine and it was all I could do to not drool 😅

These are undoubtedly a Czech creation, with their crystal clear glass, vaseline centres and expert faceting. They are every bit as beautiful in person as in the photos, probably more, because photos don't capture the movement of the colour in the light. As you can imagine, they also glow like they're trying to outshine the sun.

To the best of my knowledge, the necklace is in its original form with rolled gold clasp and little lavender blue bicone spacer beads. It measures 17" long and is in overall great condition, but please note that some of the beads do have damage. They are all completely stable and the damage really isn't noticeable with the deep facets of the beads, but it is there. Most have a tiny fleabite or two, a couple have more significant chips, and one has a fracture. I have captured all of the worst of the damage in the photos, but please don't hesitate to ask if you'd like me to send over a video.

This has had a thorough clean and is ready to be worn and enjoyed. £70 to include tracked UK postage - worldwide shipping and payment plans are available as always 🌍

💚 I am also able to customise jewellery for you; please get in touch to discuss any alterations you might like, including changes to length, addition of extra beads, clasp and stringing styles. 💚
