My dear old Mum standing in what is now the loo at Dixie Dot Crafts.
She worried constantly - what if it all goes wrong? What if you can't afford it? What on earth do you know about business? How are you going to get enough customers?

She always believed in me, she always watched me take risks, wincing. But that's Mums eh? Caring. Worrying. Cautious. Protective.

She just rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in. Washing up. Answering the phone. Cleaning tables. Mopping floors.

Dixie Dot was her second home as much as mine til she got sick.
Couldn't have done it without her.

I moved into Kingsway, the first tenant in this building. There weren't any electrics, the walls were breeze block. I had to get all the walls built.... I had precisely £0, but blind faith I could make this crazy idea work. I couldn't even afford a sign for the front, look.

This was the opening event. One which saw 1200 people visit on that first day, many of whom stayed with me until today.

HAVE YOU GOT CLAY or RESERVED ITEMS TO PAINT??

Everything that has been made with clay is fired and needing to be painted ASAP please.

No painting from the shelves is available. This is ONLY for reserved and paid for items OR clay that needs to be painted.

As we come into the last three weeks of trading, I'm looking back over the Dixie Dot era. This was our first studio in Quedgeley. I could only fit in 5 tables and that was a squeeze. The kiln was upstairs. 450 people turned up to my opening day, we had to send my best friend to go and get her garden furniture so people could paint in the car park.

It took all of 6 weeks to realise I'd far outgrown this little studio and a move was on the cards....

We've had numerous people call us chasing their pottery without leaving a name, number or any details of pottery on the voicemail.

The problem with that, is that you'll think we are ignoring you...

PS as per the last 49570345 posts, please don't chase us. Pottery is delayed due to heatwaves, a broken kiln and having lost half our team due to redundancies and closure. We are doing our best. If you ignore our requests and call us anyway, please do at least tell us who you are, when you painted and what pottery you're expecting. Bonus cheering from the team if you tell them your receipt number! It makes the whole process quicker!

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM DIXIE DOT

We are now fully booked and there is no availability from now until when we close.
While it's heart breaking to turn people away who want to visit us, we are under a lot of pressure to ensure everything is through the kiln, clay pieces are painted in time and we can start vacating the premises.
We are also now down to 2 staff (and Niamh doing adhoc hours before she goes to Uni.)
Please understand that in order to meet our commitments towards you, and the end of the business, some changes now need to be made, opening times tweaked and priorities made.

If you could hold off on chasing us about pottery coming through the kiln we'd be really grateful, we are going as fast as we can, the kiln takes 24 hours to fire, cool and then we have to empty and match to your order before we can wrap it and send your collection text.

We are running low on stock on the shelves now too so please don't be disappointed if you discover we've sold out of something you wanted to paint. It doesn't make sense to invest more money in filling the shelves.
