This drone fly-through gives a unique perspective of our Swansea workshop and the wide range of engineering capabilities we have under one roof.

As the drone moves through the facility, you will spot some of the equipment that helps us deliver projects for customers across the UK, including our CNC machining centres, CNC lathes, manual milling machines, cylindrical grinders, surface grinders, fabrication equipment, specialist drilling machinery and Flow Waterjet Cutter.

Due to the continued expansion of Cross Engineering, we are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer to join our team.

This is an important role within our workshop, helping us strengthen our machining capabilities and continue to deliver high-quality precision engineering for our customers.

The successful candidate will be a skilled, reliable and versatile machinist with experience in precision machining.

The role will involve:
▶︎ CNC milling and turning
▶︎ Programming using Siemens and XYZ ProtoTRAK
▶︎ Working in both metric and imperial units
▶︎ Reading and working from engineering drawings
▶︎ Producing accurate, high-quality components
▶︎ Working independently and as part of the wider workshop team

These images show part of a gearbox drive modification project for the steel industry, including a new motor mounting plinth and the machining of keyways into the new drive shaft before final assembly.

The keyway machining process is critical. It allows the gear, coupling or pulley to lock securely onto the shaft so torque can be transferred safely and reliably under load. In heavy industrial environments, accuracy is everything. Poor tolerances can lead to vibration, wear and premature failure.

Once machined, the shaft becomes part of a larger gearbox assembly designed to improve the performance and reliability of existing production equipment.

This type of work is commonly used to:

▷ Improve torque transfer and power transmission
▷ Replace obsolete components
▷ Extend the life of existing machinery

Some machines earn their place. This is one of them.

Our Cooper CH-25 slotter might not be the newest bit of kit on the shop floor, but it is still one we rely on. When it comes to cutting internal features like keyways, splines, and internal gears, it does the job properly.

Slotting is a process that still matters, especially when you are working on components where internal geometry has to be right the first time.

You will see this kind of work across:
