I have been mending friends tack now for over 15 years,
I stopped doing repairs after moving to the South East, but recently having repaired a few items of tack for friends again, this has rekindled my hobby again.
I learnt this skill of an old friend ( master saddler ) who taught me how to repair my own tack and how to hand sow leather and the technique used to do so.
I am happy to repair / replace broken or rotten stitching on many saddlery items, I can do basic alterations ( shortening) on most items of tack and happy to sew/ replace straps back on rugs,
I can also do some basic leather patch work if an item has snapped ( but only if not a load bearing repair )
I was taught that hand sewing is far more reliable then machine ( overlock) stitching as the 2 threads are independent of one another ( machine stitching if broken is likely to keep undoing ) where as hand stitching, unless both threads break together, will have one thread still holding the leather together !
If you have a item of tack that needs repair,
Give us a shout and I will see what I can do
