3D printed Eye? Yes that's right Scientists at Newcastle University 3D-printed the first human corneas using stem cell-based bio-ink
— in just 10 minutes!
This breakthrough could help restore sight to millions, addressing a global shortage of donor corneas. Using a low-cost printer and a gel made from alginate and collagen, the team custom-printed corneas that maintain cell viability and shape.
Though still years from clinical use, the potential is huge. Until then, cornea donation remains vital.
