Our community is being faced with a proposal so huge it’s hard to actually believe it’s real.

A 1.5GW hyperscale data centre campus, which for context, would consume almost half of the power generated from the new hinkley point nuclear power station. It will sprawl across 850 acres of rural Devon countryside, as well as being teamed with a battery storage facility containing 2700 40ft containers.

This monstrous proposal will sit on the landscape like a scene from a dystopian horror movie.

Some alarming information is starting to come out, details about how long the local council have been aware of the proposal, details about how the environmental impact can be easily ‘mitigated’ through credits, laws recently changed to allow proposals like this to glide through the system, with not enough questions asked.

A local councillor from our area, Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, has started a petition to introduce an urgent moratorium on AI Data Centres and BESS outside AI Growth Zones, please help us by signing it, every community across the UK is at risk.
