Today was Deconstructed Portraits day for our Young Artists at no.36 theartworkshop .

We explored Pop Art and the ways in which bold lines, primary colors and collage are used within the movement. Our Young Artists took inspration from images of Popular Culture icons to create both their painted and collaged works and their outcomes were amazing!

I'm always so proud of the individuality of the work our artist produce in each session, but this week I was even more pleased... this week my students actually were proud of themselves and the work they created. To hear the words "I'm actually really pleased with myself" made my day today and shows how your confidence is growing 👏

Thank you Young Artists for coming along again today and for your all your focus and hardwork during the session I hope you enjoyed it!

Hope to see you next time in our next and last session before the Summer break on Saturday 4th July.

Our next Younng Artist workshop at will be on Saturday 13th June, where we will be creating Deconstructed Portraits using a variety of mixed media approaches.

Session times:
Morning session - 10:00-12:30
Afternoon session - 13:30-16:00

Our small but friendly group currently meet once a month (morning and afternoon sessions available) where we learn new art techniques and generally have creative fun within a gallery setting.

No previous artistic experience or ability is necessary. All you need to bring is your creativity and enthusiasm, and we will provide the rest 😀

Each 2.5-hour session is ÂĢ15 per person; this includes all materials and equipment.

Group numbers are kept small for our sessions (max. 7 children) as we feel it helps keep a calm and friendly atmosphere, while giving us the ability to give guidance to those who may need it.

Please contact No.36 theartworkshop via Facebook or email [email protected] to book your place.

Hope to see you soon 😃ðŸŽĻ

Yesterday was Notan Saturday in our Young Artists session.

We learned about the Japanese design principle of balancing light and dark whilst exploring paper cutting techniques. Looking at the harmony between dark and light we discussed what negative and positive space was and what we considered to be negative and positive elements in our works.

The Young Artists created some great Notan pieces and also collaborated to create a larger piece, which will help decorate our wall in the gallery (final piece photos to follow soon). I hope you all enjoyed learning about this technique and continue to build on your skills outside of our sessions.

We also celebrated our 1st birthday as a group ðŸĨģ🎂ðŸĨģ🎂, I can't believe how a whole year has gone by already... time flies when you're having fun, hey!!

Thank you all for coming yesterday and for your hard work.

Hope to see you again soon 😊

It was Watercolour day on Saturday for our Young Artists.

We learned 12 different techniques, we then applied them to 4 different landscapes. We explored how layers can create depth and atmosphere, we also discovered how the strength of colour can impact our perception of distance.

It was a very busy session, as always, and we never seem to have quite enough time! ðŸĪŠ but the work our Young Artists produced were brilliant and hopefully they've learned some new skills and techniques to create their own weird and wonderful worlds at home!

As always, thank you to our awesome Young Artists ðŸŽĻ and for all your focus and hardwork in our sessions.

In yesterday's Young Artists session we focused on patterns and the art of Zentangle.

We tried some meditative 'thinkless' drawing to begin with to try to get out minds in the zone for relaxation. It can be really hard in today's world of constant stimulation just to switch off from everything around us and focus on a small thing like a flowing line or get lost in the creation of patterns. We discussed the importance of giving ourselves time to decompress from worries and stress, and how drawing simple doodles or patterns can help with this. I hope some of the techniques we learned in our session will continue to help with your wellbeing outside of the gallery.

Our Young Artists created mandalas using a variety of patterns, then progressed onto creating other artworks incorporating pattern work.

Thank you to everyone for all your hardwork during our sessions. I look forward to seeing you again at our next session on 21st April, where we will be creating our own worlds using Watercolours.
