Over Christmas I've had some time for some reflection, planning for the next 3 months and year ahead.
Just a couple of little changes I want to make to be able to keep working at my best and maintain the joy that my art brings me (and hopefully other people too!)
I love my craft but realised I'd forgotten why until I started just making things out my brain again, just for fun, without over thinking what might sell, is it good enough/accurate enough. I started Ursa Grey because I wanted to share my woolly creations with others and share the joy they gave me in making them, so if I stopped feeling that joy then I lose the purpose of why I started.Β
So the first change is that I will no longer be accepting commissions (this doesn't include any that I have already agreed to or customisable items such as the house demon cats). I feel so honoured for the trust when people ask me if I can make specific animals/creatures/things for them and love the variety this can bring, but it often means working out of my usual style/favourite subjects and can be overwhelming as I try to get things as accurate as possible. This change will reduce some stress for me and allow me to work on other projects I have in the pipeline. I run Ursa Grey alongside a full time day job so the time I can put in can be very limited which also means I can only focus on a limited number of things to be able to work at my best.Β
The other change I'm looking to make, is to review my selling platform. I currently sell on Etsy. I've sold on there for quite a number of years and although there are a lot of positives to it, over the years it's changed a lot. As someone who also shops on there, I find it harder and harder to trawl through AI art, drop shippers etc to get to the actual handmade, unique stuff and I worry that the same likely happens for my own handmade creations, they get lost amongst it all. If anyone has any recommendations for other platforms I am open to suggestions. Something affordable and easy to use preferably (the dream π)
Thank you for all the support so far, looking forward to sharing new and exciting woolly friends with you this year!
