One of the things we really like about this Wemyss Bay kitchen is the balance it strikes between feeling sleek and still feeling liveable.

Our clients wanted to modernise the space while also making room for a dining area, so the design had to work hard in more ways than one. We used Pronorm Y-line cabinetry in Gloss Cubanite to give the kitchen that clean, handleless look, then added Nero Granite worktops for contrast and depth. The black glass splashback and matching Siemens appliances help tie the whole scheme together and give it that strong contemporary finish.

What makes this project work so well is that it isn’t modern for the sake of it. It’s practical, streamlined, and makes good use of the space, while still feeling warm enough to live in every day. It’s a great example of how a softer beige tone can still create a very polished, high-end look when it’s paired with darker materials and the right layout.

If you’re planning a kitchen update and want something that feels modern without feeling harsh, this is exactly the kind of project worth taking inspiration from.

We tend to associate a luxury kitchen with beautiful worktops, appliances and cabinetry.

But there's another side to it that's much less glamorous.

Alignment.

A bank of doors sitting perfectly together. An appliance centred where it should be. A socket positioned properly against the design. Handles running in exactly the right line.

Nobody walks into a finished kitchen and says, "What beautifully aligned gaps."
They simply notice that the whole room feels right.
That's what good installation should do. The hard work disappears into the finished result.

It's also why we're particular about the people involved in our projects. Precision at the design stage only works if the same care continues through installation.

A long, narrow kitchen doesn’t have to feel like a compromise.

For this Glasgow home, the challenge was to make the kitchen flow naturally into the dining area while keeping the whole space practical, contemporary and easy to live with. The solution was a calm neutral palette using Pronorm Classicline in Matt Stone Grey and Matt Magnolia, with Sepia Oak used as a warmer accent.

That combination gave the room a soft, modern base without making it feel flat, while the layout helped the kitchen and dining area read as one connected space rather than two separate zones. Siemens appliances were integrated into the design, and the clients added orange chairs and accessories to bring in a little personality and stop the neutrals feeling too serious.

It’s a really good example of how colour, proportion and layout can completely change the way an awkward-shaped room feels.

You don’t always need a bigger kitchen. Sometimes you just need a better plan.

White kitchens can sometimes get dismissed as too safe, but this project shows how striking an all-white scheme can be when the details are right.

The brief for this Glasgow kitchen was simple: the client wanted it as white as possible. Rather than trying to soften that idea, the design leaned into it with high-gloss white cabinetry from Pronorm’s Proline and Classicline ranges, concealed handles, white Silestone worktops and a glass splashback. The result is clean and minimal, but still has plenty of presence.

What makes it work especially well is the contrast with the property itself. The kitchen is very contemporary, while the room has more traditional architectural details, including arched windows and classic mouldings. That combination stops the space feeling flat and gives the modern cabinetry something to play against.

It’s also a good reminder that a sleek kitchen still needs to work hard. This one was planned with plenty of storage and prep space, Siemens appliances, a stainless steel Quooker tap and even a w**e fridge, so the room works just as well for everyday cooking as it does for entertaining.

If you love the idea of a bright, contemporary kitchen but worry that white might feel too clinical, come into the showroom and we can show you how finishes, texture and layout can completely change the feel.

One of the things people rarely think about before designing a kitchen is the grid behind the cabinetry.

Pronorm’s Proline128, for example, uses a 128 mm planning grid that can be combined with different plinth heights to create cabinetry at different overall heights. That sounds very technical, but the benefit is actually quite simple: the furniture can be planned more closely around the room and the people using it. Affordable Luxuries

Someone tall may appreciate a slightly different working height. A compact room might benefit from using more vertical space. An open-plan kitchen may need cabinetry to line up neatly with adjoining furniture.

It’s another good example of why a kitchen isn’t simply a collection of standard cupboards.

The proportions matter too.

Handleless doesn’t have to mean cold, glossy and ultra-minimal anymore.

Pronorm’s Y-line is a great example.

The handle detail is integrated into the door itself, which keeps the cabinetry looking beautifully clean, but the system can be combined with different colours, materials and room layouts so the finished kitchen doesn’t all have to look the same.

Affordable Luxuries also offers Pronorm’s X-line, which uses a curved handle profile for a different take on the same clean, uninterrupted look. Affordable Luxuries

Pair handleless cabinetry with timber, textured stone and warm lighting and you get something much softer than the high-gloss kitchens people often picture.

If you like contemporary design but don’t want the room to feel clinical, this is definitely one worth seeing in person.

Brass and bronze aren’t disappearing, but the way they’re being used is changing.
This year’s interiors are leaning towards softer, aged metallic finishes rather than highly polished statement metals, which works particularly well with timber, stone, olive greens, mushroom tones and deeper autumn colours.

And you don’t need much.

A tap, handle or lighting detail can be enough to introduce warmth without making the kitchen feel overly styled.

This is exactly the sort of decision that makes far more sense when you can hold a handle against the actual cabinet colour and worktop rather than trying to imagine it from separate photographs.

Small detail. Big difference.

When a kitchen is designed around how someone actually lives, the little details start to matter just as much as the big ones.

For Ingrid and Perry’s open-plan kitchen in Gourock, the brief was clear: modern, streamlined and easy to use, with practical storage and appliances that worked with the way Ingrid cooks.

One of the smartest features is the bank of tambour worktop cabinets. These were designed to hide away small appliances while keeping them plugged in and ready to use, so the worktops stay uncluttered without making everyday cooking less convenient. The kitchen also uses drawers throughout most of the room, bespoke shelving for Ingrid’s cookery books and carefully planned storage to make sure awkward spaces weren’t wasted.

The couple chose Pronorm X-line handleless cabinetry in a soft off-white Crystal matt finish, paired with Catania oak grey worktops for a warmer, more relaxed feel. Siemens appliances, including steam and combi ovens, an integrated coffee machine, warming drawers and induction cooking, were then built into the design around how the kitchen would actually be used.

What we really like about this project is that it doesn’t shout for attention. It feels calm, practical and beautifully considered, with every decision earning its place.
That’s the difference thoughtful design can make.
