🎉 48 YEARS OF BED CENTRE GRIMSBY… AND GRIMSBY HAS SEEN SOME THINGS! 🎉

This year marks 48 years of Bed Centre Grimsby and it got us thinking about just how much Grimsby and Cleethorpes have changed over the years.

Shops have come and gone.
Pubs have disappeared.
Buildings have changed.
Nightclubs have become memories.
And then there was that time FOUR LIONS escaped from a circus in Grimsby… 😳🦁🦁🦁🦁

Yes, that really happened.

In March 1991, four lions escaped from Chipperfield’s Circus in Grimsby and were loose for around an hour before being rounded up. One local man was injured during the incident.

So we want to hear from the people who remember old Grimsby and Cleethorpes…

🔨 7AM AND WOLD COUNTY JOINERY ARE ALREADY AT IT…

Most people are still thinking about their first coffee.

These lads have already got the tools out and started another stage of the Bed Centre refurb. 😅☕️

Fair play to Wold Joinery for being here at the crack of dawn and getting straight into it.

This is the bit people don’t always see with a refurb — early starts, timber everywhere, tools all over the place and somebody permanently up a ladder. 😂

But it’s moving.

And it’s moving fast.

We’re keeping the doors open while all this is going on too, so if you call in and hear drilling, sawing or the occasional “where’s that tape measure gone?”…

you know why. 👀

🔨 REFURB UPDATE… NOW YOU CAN REALLY SEE IT TAKING SHAPE 👀

The next stage of the frontage is well underway.

The new timber framework is going in across the front of the showroom, and it’s starting to give a much clearer idea of how different the finished Bed Centre is going to look.

There’s still plenty of work to do, but this is one of those stages where suddenly it feels like things are moving quickly.

More woodwork, more prep, more painting… and probably a few more cups of tea along the way 😅☕🔨

We said we’d show you the whole journey, so here’s the latest progress.

⚽❤️ A VERY SPECIAL DELIVERY! ⚫⚪

We had the pleasure of welcoming Regan and his family into The Bed Centre Grimsby to collect his signed GTFC football! 🏆⚽

After reading all of the wonderful nominations, Regan’s story really stood out to us. Hearing how much he does for his family, the way he helps with his younger brothers and what a fantastic role model he is made him a very deserving winner. ❤️

And we found out something else while he was here…

⚫⚪ Regan’s favourite Town player is Charles Vernam! ⚫⚪

So we’re sure Regan will be having a very close look to see if he can spot Charles’ signature on the ball! 👀⚽

It was lovely to meet you both, and we hope the football takes pride of place at home, Regan.

A huge thank you again to everyone who nominated someone. There were so many deserving people and some incredibly touching stories — it reminded us exactly why we love doing things like this for our local community.

⚽ WE HAVE A WINNER! ⚫⚪

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who nominated someone for our signed Grimsby Town football.

We read every single nomination, and there were so many wonderful stories of kindness, courage and people quietly doing amazing things for others. ❤️

But there was one nomination that really touched all of us at Bed Centre Grimsby.

❤️ Congratulations, Regan Westerman-skinner! ❤️

Reagan was nominated by his mum, Emma Janye-Westerman who told us what a thoughtful young lad he is.

At just 15, Regan has given up so much of his own time to help with his younger brothers while his mum has been juggling work and university. She told us he takes everything in his stride, always tries his best and never complains.

He also attends Army Cadets every week, where he’s become a fantastic role model to others.

And, of course, there was one other VERY important qualification…

⚫⚪ He’s a true Mariner! ⚫⚪

It was Reagan’s 15th birthday on Sunday too, so we think this signed GTFC football might make a pretty special belated birthday surprise! 🎂⚽

Regan, this one’s yours. 🏆

Emma-Jayne, please drop us a private message so we can arrange getting the football to him and hopefully keep the surprise under wraps! 🤫

There have been so many moving stories, not only across the different posts and shared threads, but through private messages too.

⚽ WHO DESERVES THIS SIGNED GTFC FOOTBALL? ⚫⚪

We’ve managed to get our hands on a signed Grimsby Town football and we want it to go to someone special in our local community.

But we need YOUR help choosing who. 👇

We’re looking for an unsung Mariner — young or old.

Someone who:

🔨 REFURB UPDATE… ANOTHER STEP FORWARD!

A little more progress outside today 👀

The sealant and undercoat are now going onto the sections of new, unpainted timber, getting everything properly prepared before the finishing coats go on.

There’s still plenty happening behind the scenes too, with more woodwork due to be done later this week as the frontage continues to take shape.

It’s one of those stages where the changes can look small day to day… but every job is another step closer to the finished result.

We said we’d show you the whole journey, not just the shiny final reveal — so here’s today’s progress. 🔨🎨
