Is a California patch lazy, or just smart working? 🤔
Some trades swear by timber battens every single time, but for low-impact drywall repairs, this method saves time, saves materials, and stays completely flush:
1️⃣ Cut the repair patch 50mm larger than the wall opening.
2️⃣ Score and peel back the gypsum core, leaving a 25mm paper feather edge around the perimeter.
3️⃣ Test-fit the patch into the opening for a flush depth match.
4️⃣ Apply high-tack filler directly into the void and around the cut edge.
5️⃣ Bed the paper fl**ge flat using a flexible jointing knife, squeezing out excess compound.
6️⃣ Allow to fully cure, then coat with a light topping finish and feather flat.
Note: Ideal for boxing in, dry service runs, and low-impact areas.
