I love my new bed cushions. It was great to have a go at frills and velvet piping. All the rules about coordinating fabrics are there to be broken, I like the pattern so therefore it works. I know they won't be everyone's taste, but I'm still channeling my inner queen mother 👑👑👑

I feel like a proper grown-up when I have vases of flowers I've actually grown. My Benjamin Britten rose went a bit bonkers this year; I forgot to prune it in winter, so it's gone very leggy, but it produced some amazing flowers. I always feel bad cutting them, but this one lasts much longer in a vase than on the bush for some reason.





It's very hot if you are a black lurcher, but Beau loves his fan, dog ice cream and of course sitting underwater.

My house was moved... 😳

I live in a little lodge that once stood at the entrance to Brooklands, the grand mansion of a Yorkshire mill owner.
But something never quite added up...

Brooklands was built in 1863, yet in the third very grainy photo from 1867, my house should be visible... and it isn't.

Then there's the 4th photo. The angle makes no sense. There's simply no way you could see the lodge with the main house sitting behind it.

Even stranger, every map of the estate shows the lodge exactly where it stands today.

So what was going on?

The brilliant team at Friends of Shaw Park uncovered an article from the local paper, dated 1877, which revealed the answer:

"The lodge was removed from a site lower down on the gates being erected."

Mystery solved. 🕵️‍♂️

Those intrepid Victorians didn't just build houses...

They moved them!

This house if full of mysteries, I wonder what else we'll find out about it.

Sorry, there are a lot of slides on this one!

Someone has asked me where I got the idea to stencil my living room. It's actually a copy of the original 1870s scheme that we found when we stripped the room. I altered the colour to be more of a blue tone to match the sofa we already had. I'm totally obsessed with the result. What do you think?

Last month we took the train to Munich to see King Ludwig's castles. It was an amazing trip! Most of them don't allow photos, but the Residenz did, and it has 130 rooms of crazy splendour!

David gave up after about 120 rooms, but I stuck it out for all of them 🤣🤣🤣
