What was the worst thing you found in your house? 😂

Our list is quite long…

This weekend, my lovely brother (looking very fetching in those fantastic overalls!) helped me replace the cellar windows.

And then we discovered that the old ones were literally being held in with expanding foam.

No screws
No bolts
Just foam🤦‍♂️

A couple of kicks from and they came straight out — which, admittedly, made removing them very easy! 😂

The new windows are now properly secured with bolts and we’ve checked all the other 25 windows in the house. Thankfully they’re all fine.
Apparently it was just the cellar windows that had been installed using the “she’ll be right” method. 🤣

I can now add window fitting to my ever-growing list of skills acquired from YouTube tutorials.

Yesterday I had a flying visit to in London and while everyone else was looking at the art, I was busy studying the curtains.

The pelmets, the trims, the proportions... every room was packed with inspiration.

It got me wondering:

I've seen so many posts about the beautiful garden that's been revealed beneath the dry lawns at Chatsworth House, but I've got my own little bit of archaeology revealed here at the lodge! 🤣🤣

The old gravel drive once swept down to the carriage entrance of the house just down the hill and now that the lawn has dried out, you can clearly see the edge of it again.

This is the first year I've let the grass go brown. It used so much water trying to keep it green, so I've decided to let nature take its course instead.

The last clip is of the amazing bees, who are absolutely loving the sunshine and the lavender. 🐝💜

There is a lot more to making a pair of curtains than just sewing the fabric together.

When my lovely customer chose this beautiful ILIV fabric for her gorgeous cottage sitting room, I knew I had to get them just right.

I wanted the pattern to sit in exactly the tight place on every pinch pleat, so they look balanced whether they're open or closed. It meant a lot of planning, measuring, unpicking, checking and more than a bit of head scratching!

It's one of those details that many people might never notice, but it's the sort of thing that makes a handmade pair of curtains feel just right.

I am really pleased with how these turned out.

The Victorians knew what they were doing when building houses. Our walls are so thick, and the north side of the lodge is lovely and cool. I'm not going into the other rooms though; it's absolutely boiling even with the curtains all closed. I hope you are managing to keep cool today ❤️❤️❤️
