🚨 BREAKING NEWS: REEVES UPHOLSTERY HOUSE BRINGS THE CAR PARK TO A STANDSTILL! 🚛🤣

All because we decided we needed a new cutting table!

9.6 metres long, 2.2 metres wide, one enormous flatbed wagon, a crane… and a few questionable decisions! 😂

Our latest acquisition is a fabulous old industrial cutting table, complete with its original fabric rollers, from a dressmaking business with an incredible 80 years of history. The table originally came from Laura Ashley in Leeds many moons ago so we have acquired a proper piece of Yorkshire textile history!
And now it’s starting its next chapter at Reeves Upholstery House.

We think Dad would have absolutely loved it. ❤️

Although he might have questioned how on earth we were going to get the blooming thing off the wagon! 😂

Even more special, it belonged to a dear customer of my late dad, Ken. ❤️

Her son very kindly delivered it today, although I don’t think any of us quite anticipated the military operation involved in getting it here! 🤣

It’s a wonderful piece of traditional equipment, and we love that it’s going from one long-established family business to another.

Dad would have absolutely loved it. ❤️

Now comes the small matter of getting the blooming thing into the workshop!

If anyone needs us, we’ll be underneath a cutting table somewhere… SEND HELP! 🤣🤣

🚚 A LITTLE UPDATE ON COLLECTIONS & DELIVERIES

From 1st November, we’ll be making a small increase to our collection and delivery charges.

Like everyone, we’ve seen the cost of fuel and running our vehicles increase, but there’s another big factor too — whenever we collect or deliver furniture, it means taking one (and often two!) of our upholsterers off the bench and out of the workshop.

And at the moment, we need every pair of hands we can get! 🪡🛋️

So, moving forward, if you’re able to drop your furniture off with us and collect it once it’s finished, or have a friend/family member who can, it will save you money AND really help us keep the workshop moving.

Of course, our collection and delivery service is absolutely still available. We’re more than happy to do it, and we know that for larger pieces especially, having us deliver means you can be confident your newly upholstered furniture is handled properly and gets safely back into your home.

We just wanted to give everyone plenty of notice that collection & delivery charges will increase from 1st November to better reflect the actual cost to the business.

If you can bring it to us — brilliant! 🙌

🧵 A little note about buying fabric through our studio…

We’re occasionally asked why a fabric can sometimes be found slightly cheaper online than the price quoted through us.

The simple answer is: when you buy fabric through Reeves, you’re not just buying metres of cloth. You’re buying a service.

When you come into our showroom, you have access to hundreds of fabric books and collections that we invest in so you can actually see and feel fabrics rather than choosing from a photograph on a screen, you can even take our books home to browse at your leisure.

I’ll sit with you, sometimes over several visits, go through colours, patterns and textures, order samples, arrange returnable samples, deal with postage and returns, answer emails and help narrow down what will actually work in your home.

Quite often, I’ll even digitally put your chosen fabrics onto a photograph of your furniture so you can see what they could look like before making that final decision.

Then there’s the practical side. Some fabrics require additional treatment to comply with UK domestic fire regulations before we can use them for upholstery. We arrange the treatment, transport, ordering, checking and handling until your fabric is ready to go into our workshop.

Of course, you may occasionally find the same fabric cheaper online.

But an online retailer isn’t necessarily providing all of the above.

We’re very happy for customers to supply their own suitable upholstery fabric if they prefer — but if you choose to use our showroom, our samples, our advice, our time and our design service to find the fabric, we hope you’ll understand why our price cannot always compete with the cheapest price on the internet.

We don’t just sell fabric. We help you choose the right fabric. And there’s a big difference. ❤️

Our upholsterers are working overtime, we’ve got extra hands in the workshop, and we’re doing everything we can to get through the Christmas rush. 🪡🛋️

Our diary is VERY nearly full, but if you’re hoping to have something completed before Christmas, don’t assume it’s too late — get in touch!

From sofas, armchairs and dining chairs to pubs, restaurants, hotels and commercial seating — we may still be able to squeeze you in.

🏡 A HOME DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT 🏡

Somewhere along the way, social media made us believe our homes should always be Instagram-ready.

Perfect cushions. Perfect paintwork. Perfectly styled shelves. Nothing out of place.

But actually… a home is for living in. ❤️

It should have a chair that’s slightly worn because everyone fights to sit in it. A table with the odd mark from years of family dinners. A cushion squashed by the dog 🐾. Things you’ve collected over the years that don’t necessarily “go” — but mean something to you.

The loveliest homes aren’t created overnight. They evolve.

They’re a mixture of old and new. Expensive and inexpensive. Inherited pieces, holiday finds, family photographs, books, furniture that’s been recovered rather than replaced… and all the little things that tell the story of the people who live there.

Your home shouldn’t make you feel like you have to keep up with anyone else.

It doesn’t need to look like a showroom.
It just needs to feel like YOU.

So embrace the wonky cushion, the scratched table, the old chair you can’t bear to part with and the room you still haven’t quite finished.

REEVES UPHOLSTERY HOUSE CELEBRATES 12TH AWARD IN EIGHT YEARS

Harrogate-based Reeves Upholstery House is celebrating after being named Best Traditional Upholstery & Furniture Restoration Company 2026 – Yorkshire in the Acquisition Family Business Awards 2026.

The prestigious win marks the family business’s 12th award in just eight years since Michaela and Mark took over the reigns from the family. Recognising its traditional craftsmanship, exceptional furniture restoration and commitment to preserving specialist upholstery skills.

Founded in Harrogate in 1979 by Ken and Patrizia Reeves, the business is now run by their daughter Michaela Reeves and her partner Mark Skinner, with the third generation continuing the family tradition.
