We are delighted to announce that Woodturning Workshop Hartlepool CIC has been awarded a grant from the Veterans' Foundation UK to deliver a dedicated woodturning programme for veterans in our community.

Thanks to this generous support, we will be offering 10 two-hour woodturning sessions for up to 12 veterans, providing opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence, improve wellbeing, and connect with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Woodturning is more than just a craft—it encourages creativity, concentration, patience, and a sense of achievement. We are proud to use this funding to help veterans experience these benefits while developing practical woodworking skills and creating unique handmade projects.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Veterans' Foundation for recognising the value of community-based projects and helping us make this programme possible.

Further details on dates, eligibility, and how to register will be announced soon.

Together, we're turning timber into opportunities.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with veterans, veterans' organisations, and anyone who may benefit from the programme.

Last night's demo at Doncaster Woodturners started with a thin-walled bowl that nearly went through the side, as you can see in one of the photos where the light shines through.

Unfortunately, I later broke it — disaster!

I then turned an elephant and finished the evening with a trinket box.

Near the end, the foot broke, so I’ll remount it and turn a small spigot so I can replace the foot with a contrasting timber.

Overall, it was a really good night, with lots of positive comments from everyone.

Over the last few days I’ve been contacted by several new clubs to organise demos for next year, which is fantastic.

I’m now fully booked for a weekend in Scotland with 2 clubs — possibly 3 — including Dundee and Aberdeen, as well as a week of demonstrations across Norfolk and Suffolk at 3 different clubs, along with bookings in other areas too.

If your club is currently arranging next year’s demonstrators and would like to book someone new, please do get in touch. The diary is filling up nicely!
